I've been hanging round ppm for awhile and i've been thinking about starting modding. So, I signed up. What program for modding should I specifically download for starting? Hope sumone replies before I just download everything and take up like 50 mb in my C: drive. Very Happy

I started by just using the rules.ini and art.ini files and editing them with notepad. If you get familiar with editing ini files, it makes other things a whole lot easier... partially because it gives you an idea on how the game works..

FinalSun for TS maps is an awesome program

With VXLSE you can edit the voxels in the game. . .units it TS and RA2 are actually 3D images made of small cubes, and you can edit/make them with this program.
It's a little difficult to learn, but once you do it's alot of fun to use it..

If you're good at 3D modelling I'd get into SHP building; it's tedious making each and every frame, though, but you can make infantry, buildings, and mechs with this program.

hello and welcome to ppm. I hope you get to like modding as much as I did.

I started simple modding years back.... just changing weapon specs, unit strengths and pre-existing stats. you might want to start with that

modding is very easy!

I started to learn to modify almost every visual aspect of the game just last year (my modding interests rekindled). and for this, you came in incredibly good timing! Wink Banshee's just perfected (somewhat Very Happy ) the primitive 3d model maker that is the VXSLE III version 1.36... so you wont have to face the same problems we did months (and for some.. years) back. Wink

So here's the tools you'll need (all of them can be found in right here in PPM)
1.) VXSLE III 1.36 (you need this to create 3d vehicles)
2.) OS SHP Builder (it might look primitive but I can confidently say that this is a pandora's box of endless graphical possibilities... provided you have the imagination and skills of course #Tongue)
3.) a set of fresh .ini files that you can edit to your whim
4.) XCC utilities (actually this isn't on the site but it's easy to find anyway)
5.) OS HVA builder (to configure your voxel models)

If you're having trouble finding fresh ini files, I posted them at the bottom.

I've already understood rules.ini coding, since i've played the demo and i've sorta converted it so that i can make it as much the proper game as possible.

Anyway, I totally DO NOT understand art.ini. must learn.

The ini files I already have thx.

Btw thx for shifting this post.

Oh yeah is there a finalsun for first decade cuz I wanna try mapping but I do not have the original.

Yep I know I've checked. Can't anyone create a new program or just reprogram it? Oh and btw I can't find any good beginner tutorials in the tutorials section. Anyone can send any links?

The tutorials forum is all too advanced, which is not what i want when I do not really know what exactly is voxels and shps. Very Happy

you don't need tutorials to use the voxel editor and the SHP builder. The VXSLE III is notorious for daunting new users but believe me, you can master it in 10 minutes. all that needs to be done is figure out which view is which . The three views are in essence cross section of the said orientation; i.e., 'back' is a cross section when looking at the front or back of the voxel model, 'right' is a cross section when looking at the sides, and 'top' is.... you know what.

don't get daunted by it... it's very simple. most users learn in it minutes Wink .

as for the SHP builder, it's basically MS paint with extra features Smile

I'm still seriously screwed up. I'm now stupidly clicking here and there with the shp program. Can find some relationships with paint but I've never used paint so much cuz photoshop is much better

Dammmmmmmmmmmmmm

Anyone know any good art.ini tutorials I do not know how to even use it. Otherwise I know how to use all the other basic ini editors.

Most people make the shp images in another program and copy & paste them int the shp builder.

all I have is ms paint, and I haven't had the time to learn 3D modelling, so I tend to stay away from shp right now.
