Voxel Competition: Public Voting!
Subject description: It's the first ever voxel popularity contest...
Have you sent a voxel to the last Voxel competition organized by Raminator? The deadline is over, the judges rated the voxels, but now, it's time for the public to vote on them. The public vote can change the results... so put your voice there. Check this sector for further information.
Here's some of the most exotic voxels submitted to the contest, for your viewing pleasure:
Tarantula Gunship. Usually spiders have 8 legs, as far as I know.
This is called 'Tank 02', but honestly, this is not a tank!
G80GTX... the name is very similar to my GeForce7800 GTX video card and it is just as monstrous as that!
Ph34r teh bug!
I am invincible! Invincibility with the Mobile Ion Curtain!
And there are few others. I must admit that these guys were far too much inspired! Good luck for all contestants. Last edited by Banshee on Wed Apr 11, 2007 3:42 am; edited 1 time in total QUICK_EDIT
how many bloody times do i have to say it? the voxel dot distance has to be like .7 to look good ingame and not have gaps. don't be fooled by the voxel viewers which require the voxel dot distance to be 1 to prevent overlapping. i swear i'm gonna take this option out and lock it to .7
anyway, i think these are the best voxels so far, it's just the gaps are causing a problem and maybe the voxels look a little too noisy, maybe the voxelization supersampling wasn't turned up high enough or maybe these voxels are just too detailed for the game's voxel rendering which doesn't use rendering supersampling. of course all this is assuming 3ds2vxl was used. I like the Mobile Iron Curtain. It just looks right.
Would someone be able to post all of the other voxel pictures please? I still can't access Rami's site. _________________

Viper how can I change voxel dot distance to .7?
I have only seen that command in 3ds2vxl
Voxel Dot Distance is just a term created to use when talking about the voxel bounds and their percentile differences.
To manually change the voxel dot distance to 0.7, you will have to go into the voxel bounds screen in VXLSEIII and multiply all 3 dimensions of your voxel by 0.7. Using the number you get, you will have to change the Min and Max values to have a difference equal to that number.
So let's say your voxel is 100x60x40.
Code:
100 * 0.7 = 70
60 * 0.7 = 42
40 * 0.7 = 28
Using these 3 numbers, you have to change the voxel bounds. Previously, XMin would be 50, and XMax also 50. You have to change them both to 35 now. 70 divided by 2, so that the unit is centered.
The same applies to ZMin and ZMax. 40 divided by 2.
Y is the different axis. Since you want your voxel to be ON the ground, YMin is always 0, and YMax is the height. Normally that would be 60, but you want a dot distance of 0.7, so the mew YMax is 42.
Note that your voxel WILL be smaller in-game and in all viewers. This essentially squeezes the cubes together so there are no holes.
This is a pretty good tutorial. Which forum should I post it in? There isn't a generic tutorial forum. Also, if anyone wants to help it and take some screenshots of the voxel bounds editor using the numbers in this example. That'd help. _________________
actually the "Tank" what is not a "tank" is a "Tank" and its called like that in Ghost in the Shell 1 lol _________________ Hydraw Art on Facebook QUICK_EDIT
I must say i honestly like the "Puca" jet thing the best. although it could i think it needs better remap areas than the little it has now.
the "cusp" helicopter is fairly nice to but its just lacking something IMO
and the "BKHRV" thing is too dark IMO and its remap is just too much.
the "tarantula gunship" has a very nice concept and looks quite nice but am i blind? as i cant see where the remap is plus theres just something about it that seems weird to me. :S
the "Tank 02" also has a nice concept but IMO needs more contrast and once again could someone point out where its remap is?
the "G80GTX" is just too big IMO even for RA2/YR and i think i can assume the blue is remap? and if so then i dont like how it was put on this one. and is that a pink dot i see on the bottom left view?
now the "bug" thing is IMO a great voxel. i love the concept behind it and i actually like the remap for it to. this one was really close to getting my vote.
now for the "Mobile Ion Curtain" i like the idea and i like how it actually looks like it has a mini iron curtain on it. it looks quite nice. it has a very nice RA2/YR feel to it. this also came close to getting my vote.
but in the end out of the ones i see here i must say the "puca" jet thing is appealing to me the most as of right now so it gets my vote....i hope i dont change my mind as all the entries are good. and i came really close to choosing another.
dang that was long....i guess i just had to add in my input for each one thats up there for now. great job guys. and dont take my thoughts on these personally as i dont know that much about voxels and suck at them myself. _________________ Kalistia Crestland (2)

Just a little note about the voxels showed in the news were the ones I considered most exotic, but not exactly the best. I'll only reveal my favourite one after the poll there. I don't want to influence anyone. QUICK_EDIT
