As the title states, a work in progress sidebar for The Tainted.

Very much a WIP, just burnt out working on it for now.

EDIT: Revised (tables breaking) version with a black background to make viewing it easier.

The text can be a bit more photoshopped to look a little bit more textured, in my honest opinion. But you've got a nice concept in hands so far.

Burnt out design is good, but just wondering, you don't intend to keep that font do you?

No, I had nothing that fit better at the time though.

Well, regardless, the blood red design fits well, reckon it works nicely.

The sidebar is realy cool, has nice texture, but the text is a bit "blury" and a bit hard to read. Is is possible to make it a bit more "crisp"?

He JUST said the font was just a placeholder. Confused

Anyways..

Very good, but the cameo/sidebar area could use some more detail. very nice, tho.

It's... not been done yet. There are NO details on that area bar a lump of texture. :/

Don't worry Carnivean, the [WIP] (Work in Progress) title of this thread doesn't get through to them.

People, areas that obviously look incomplete, are simply that. You can make detail and font comments when he posts the "complete" version. That's when comments are important, to make changes.

To be honest? Previewing it with a white background make it looks ztype ugly and hard on the eyes.

Also, the font is a tad hard to read. Might wanna replace it or space it out. Other than that, well, it's passable.

It looks like a side bar you would use for a western mod, back in the old days of gold mines and six shooters.

It looks pretty cool but you should change the colour of the text. It's something of a shade of pink which isn't very nice.

Unsuprisingly, I don't control the forum theme. Perhaps if you actually bothered you'd notice the planned terrain is volcanic, with that in mind it won't be on a light background.
You might also want to learn to read as I already responded saying the font is a placeholder until I create or locate a better font.

Pretty good that it's passable as it's only around 15% done.

You really don't get it. This is a Work-In-Progress. The thread is about the GUI and only the GUI. Adding unnecessary art from the wrong game on top of it (I know it's just an example.) is just plain wrong. We don't need extra art to evaluate the GUI because all of it is already there. The GUI on white/black is just a preference on the viewers' part and detracts nothing the GUI itself.

Simply put, quit your bitching.

Wrong! As was already posted, if it's black on white it is hard to see. That by definition detracts from the GUI.

I had no trouble seeing it on the white background. It does depend on the viewer.

It's already on grey, which is between both so you should have no complaints now. The useless extra pictures removed.

"black on white it is hard to see" <- Do you mean balck against white lacks of contrast 0_o ? Even with a black square close to it still will be against white as it's the background colour of ppm's forum ...
Don't get me wrong but I think all this blah blah about the background was caused by people who wanted to comment without anything to say. And by the way I think we saw much more with the white background ...

Perhaps a mockup screenshot of the mod would have been better so it would be easier to judge who is right and who is wrong?

Again, a mockup would detract from the image if anything as most people would focus on that rather than the GUI. It's animated now, if you people don't stop bitching about backgrounds I'll just delete most of the newer posts in the thread. You're meant to be commenting on the actual GUI itself (granted it's not finished so there's not a lot to comment on but suggestions would work.. other than 'OMG WHITE CONTRASTSES' at least), if you dislike the colour of the background the fill tool in paint would work wonders.

OK personal opinion on the GUI..... It needs alot of work.

The GUI should depend on the mod or application your making it for, I really cant see any use for a gui like this in any cnc mod or cnc in general. Personally it should look technologically invigorating. With flash faction symbols and modern buttons. Plus it could look clean unless the mods faction are apocalyptic survivors or are part of wars that have lasted for years. You wanted decent opinions, you have mine. Hope it didnt hit too hard.

@ Dregan : maybe you should check what his mod is about and edit your reply or he'll once again get crossed.

Point taken but then I've always found that it's one of the best way's to really show GUI like this off. The Sidebar for Red Alert 2: Apocalypse Rising for example.
