Chapter 1
The Underground
Year: 2046 three weeks after the opening of the third tiberium war.
Location: Outside the former site of Dallas, Texas.

Naia opened her eyes and sat up in her bed as another series of soft rumbles coursed through the floor of her room. It was the unmistakable feeling of GDI Juggernauts firing off volley after volley, at targets over the horizon. They had been at it for several hours and hadn’t slowed in all that time. She quietly said a prayer both for the pilots of the Juggernauts and the men at the receiving end of those shells, then glanced around her oddly shaped bedroom, it was a box turned on a 45 degree angle with new, level floors attached. Her home was in the right railgun of an old Mammoth MK-II that had tumbled into a ravine tail-first. She climbed up the ladder that had formerly been a floor passing her parents bedroom and into the main body of the mammoth. Here was a kitchen, living room, and bathroom, along with her clan’s communications array, Positioned in the head of the former war machine. Her mother came into the kitchen as she was making breakfast and ran her hands through Naia’s dark hair. At nine Naia was far more mature then a child born in the protective havens of a blue zone, but still a kid at heart and squirmed away as her mother tried to straighten her hair. A loud ping sounded through the room.
Her mother climbed the ladder into the head of the Mammoth and turned off the alarm.
“Naia, go wake your dad. Tell him we’re getting a call from East-End” She went to his room and shook him awake.
“We’re getting a call from East-End.”
“Okay honey, I’m coming.” He grumbled as she tugged him out of bed. They climbed into the body of the mammoth and her dad grabbed a cup of coffee before continuing up into the nose. Naia waited to make sure they were busy then snuck downstairs and out into the burrows

She opened the hatch in the back wall of the living room and exited the mammoth into a narrow tunnel, it curved down into the tiberium laced ground and opened onto the main square of her clan. A large cave with tunnels coming and shooting off in every which way, shops were placed between glowing green stalactites and people milled about in the rough warren shopping for wares from around the world.
“Hey Naia!” a boy about her age shouted, she ran over to him.
“Hey Andrew, what’s up?” Andrew was slightly taller then her with short curly black hair, like everyone his eyes were a bright neon green and his hair had bright green flecks in it where tiberium dust had started to grow.
“We found a new cave! Wanna go check it out?”
“I’m not s’posed to be out right now, I gotta get back home before my parents get off the radio. How bout after lunch?”
“Sure, one o’clock?”
“Yup, see if Danni and Seamus want to go.”
“Okay!” the two kids parted and raced off their separate ways.
Naia stayed in the tunnels for ten more minutes then raced home hoping East-End had a lot to say.

Naia never got a chance to explore that cave, because about midmorning a group of Nod stealth tanks rolled over the GDI position and shells were falling all over the place. Three tunnels had collapsed and the warrens were swarming with activity. Naia was sent back to her house and her father locked her in her bedroom before he climbed up into the nose of the Mammoth sending out SOS signals to the neighboring clans. Stealth tanks swarmed across the blasted ground and Nod troops dove into the ravines for cover. Her parents grabbed weapons and shot out of small gun slits at the Nod troops. Shells rained down and the ground shook with the force of the explosions. Naia knew they were the same shells that she had heard being fired all through the night.

Suddenly the air grew hot as the Mammoth’s head was ripped off. An Orca had slammed into it and blew it apart. Naia saw it and started crying, that was where her father had been. Then the door to her room was opened and both her parents came in, her dad had burns on his skin but was alive.
“We’ve got to go, we can’t stay here.” Her dad said picking her put and carrying her out of the room. They exited the house and had started down into the caves when a huge explosion knocked them off their feet. As Naia stood up the air grew hazy with a strange green fog, then the room seemed to melt, everything was going crazy, she fell over and blacked out.

When she awoke she was strapped to a table, wearing only a hospital gown. Adult voices swirled around her.
“Number three is waking up.”
“Good send her to the doctor.” She tried to look and see who was talking but around her neck kept her from moving her head. Her bed started moving, she was wheeled down the hall into another room.
“Sir we have another subject.”
“Excellent, a young one at that, put her in the chamber, maybe we’ll have better results.”
“Doctor?” another voice, this one a woman’s “Doctor, we were wondering if we could borrow some of your subjects for a little experiment, the general sent us a sample of tiberium with some interesting characteristics and we want to see if the mutation rate is enhanced.”
“Why would it be? Besides most of these samples are reds, you’d want blues to test mutation rates.”
“Not now, and this tiberium is like nothing we’ve ever seen before, its alive and tries to move around, we had to restrain it with an EMF generator.”
“Fascinating I wish I had time to see it myself. Sure you can take a few of the subjects.”
“Good we’ll take those three over there, this girl her and her family.”
“Excellent, be sure to inform me of your findings.”
“As always doctor. And your always welcome in our lab.” The doctor laughed,
“Welcome I’m sure, I just don’t have the time to stop in.”
“Well this is something you certainly don’t want to miss.”
The two said farewell and Naia’s bed started moving again, she was pushed down a hallway and into another room. Another voice spoke from the far side.
“Oh good you’ve brought more subjects.”
“Which ones do we test first?” the woman said.
A man with grey hair and a stubbly beard leaned over her bed the moved away.
“Lets test this family you brought, children always produce such interesting results.”
Her cart was pushed into a nearby room and the door was shut, then the restraints on her bed were released and she sat up.
The room was dim, the lights barely on, it was dark save for the glow of a large tiberium crystal, but this one lacked hard edges and seemed to be partially liquid, suddenly arms wrapped lovingly around her shoulders and she looked up at her mother’s face.
“Mom? What’s going on?”
“I don’t know honey, but we’re okay, its going to be okay.” She looked around the room. Her father flicked off the security cam in the corner and tried to see the people behind the one wall glass wall on the left of the room. She could here them talking about mutation rates and things but it made no sense to her. There was a small tremor and the lights flickered.
“What was that?” Naia asked still confused about what was going on, “Who are these people? Who are they keeping us here?”
“I don’t know honey, but everything will be okay, GDI will rescue us, just wait, everything will be fine.” Naia got up from the bed and went over to the crystal, when she got near she thought she heard whispers.
“Mom who’s that?”
“What honey?”
“Don’t you here the voices?”
“No,” Her mother frowned. “Now come away from there Naia, something’s not right with that crystal.”
“What’s wrong? Its just tiberium; See?” she reached out and put her hand on it and was surprised when she received a large electric shock.
“Naia come away from there!” Her father picked her up and pulled her away from the rock, just then the ground shook again and the lights went out.

Naia heard a soldier enter the next room.
“GDI is bringing in the Ion cannon we need to evacuate the base!”
“But our work—”
“forget it, General wants you alive now come on!” the scientists were lead out of the room and it was quiet. Her dad slammed his weight against the glass wall but ti refused to break, they were trapped. Then Naia heard the voices again.
“Please….help us.”
She looked around, the sound was coming from the tiberium, this time her parents heard it too.
“What are you?” her mother asked fear in her voice,
“We are the last of the ones who came before…if this form is destroyed then all hope is lost, we can help you if you help us.” Her father walked over to the large crystal and looked at it carefully.
“What do we do?” her father said.
“Your helping it? We don’t know what it is or where it came from.”
“We have no choice! How can we help you?”
“This form does not have the strength to survive the energy weapon, if you allow us to shelter in one of your bodies we can protect it from the weapon.
“Only one of us?”
“We do not have enough mass to inhabit all of you, we can only save one.”
“Then save our daughter.” Her father said.
“Dad what’s going on?” her mother got on her knees and put her hands on Naia’s shoulders.
“Listen honey, we’re going to have to go away for a while, but don’t worry everything will be okay, I promise.” Her mother hugged Naia and carried her over to the crystal. She touched it again and it flowed over her like an extra skin.
“Mom?! What’s happening?”
“Its okay honey, everything will be fine.” A whistling sound blew around the room growing in pitch.
“What’s going on!” Naia said panicking.
“Goodbye Naia.” Her mother squeezed her hand and then vanished as the room and everything in it disintegrated in a blinding burst of light and sound.

“Kid? Kid?” Naia sat up, a GDI soldier was shaking her shoulders. “Hey this ones alive!” the soldier shouted helping Naia to her feet. She was led over to a tent that been set up among the ruined Nod base. She was looked over given some food then taken to a doctor. The doctors examining her were shocked, she had no wounds at all. She tried to remember what had happened then but she couldn’t focus on it, the memories kept slipping away and she could provide them with no answers. Meanwhile she could here a man shouting loudly in the background.
“I want to know who authorized that Ion strike and I want to know now! Central command is going to have our ass for this! Over seventy dead civilian prisoners! When I get back to DC, heads are going to roll! Do you have any idea what you did Lieutenant! Do you?!”
“A sir, our orders were to stop Nod from evacing that sample at all costs we were just—“
“I will not hear any bullsh*t about following orders! You ordered that cannon strike on an empty facility housing captured civilians! This is going to be a public relations nightmare, your career is over! You’ll be lucky if they don’t court marshal you! I swear heads are going to roll!” Naia shook her head, she seriously doubted any of the man’s threats were genuine, no the Lieutenant he was speaking to would be transferred and the whole incident would be quietly shoved under the rug. No one cared for the forgotten why would now be any different?

8 years later
Salvage Facility Tao 21

“Hey Naia! How about you and me get together later!” the large gubby looking man shouted to her from a vehicle floating nearby.
“Hey Dex! How bout I shove this cutting torch up your ass!” she said as she finished slicing through the barrels of a juggernaut and throwing them up at the vehicle so its magnetic field grabbed them and held them onto the pile of junk on the other side. Then Dex fired up the engines and headed back for the facility. A loud siren sounded indicating it was time to call it a day. She jumped on her hoverboard and took off for the base. Zooming past the growing towers of tiberium and the facility was nested among.
When she got to the entrance a long line was forming. When she got there she cut to the front.
“Hey Jeb, its me Naia, no special rules for you kid gonna have to wait like the rest of your kind.”
“Oh come on Jeb its me I’m not with those losers.”
“Naia.”
“Oh come on.”
“For the last time! Mutants wait! He shoved her on the shoulder and sent her coating to the end of the line.
“Looks like your stuck with us losers Naia.” A thin grubby man with green eyes said.
“Screw this I’m taking the express route.” She said pulling away from the group and zooming up towards the top of the facility.
“Your gonna get yourself killed!” they shouted after her. But she ignored them. She was planning on flying up into the large hopper used to drop off salvage and go in the door used for maintenance. But as she flew over the lip of the building the huge yellow side of a GDI dropship loomed up in front of her. She jumped the throttle and tried to go over it but didn’t quite make it hitting the corner with her knees and rolling along to top. She winced in pain then shook her head, and unstrapped her board before standing uneasily. She walked over to the bridge and looked in the window. A man was sitting in a control chair pressing switches, he noticed her, smiled but shook his head and the window turned black. She sat there for a few minutes then put her board on and headed in.

Later that day she was sitting in the cafeteria with her friend Yen trying to eat the reprocessed garbage they called food.
“I’m telling you Yen that ship is our ticket out of here.”
“Stowing away on a GDI transport! Do you have any idea what they’ll do if they find us?”
“We don’t get caught.”
“Naia just relax we’ll get out of here but we can’t stow away on a GDI transport ship. That’s just stupid.”
There was a shout and Naia turned, a pair of Nod soldiers had entered the Cafeteria and leveled their guns at several people. Inhaled sharply and ducked down under the table pulling Yen down with her.
“Nod.”
The soldiers moved so they were sure they wouldn’t miss their targets. Then began shouting demands.
“Okay we don’t want any trouble, just give us the girl named Naia Clasaw and we’ll leave, failure to comply will be met harshly.
“That’s our cue to leave.” Naia said pulling Yen behind her. She dragged her into the hallway and quietly shut the door.
“Okay your right lets just take the transport and get out of here.”
“Alright.” They snuck up through the facility and to the dropship, but there were a pair of soldiers guarding the hatch.
“Where are you two going.” The one on the left asked.
“Please sir help us there are some Nod soldiers after us!”
“Nod? Here? Stay here we’ll check it out.” As soon as the soldiers had left Naia climbed through the hatch.
“Naia! What are you doing they said to stay here!”
“Those Nod soldiers weren’t ordinary troops, they were commandos. Those two are dead meat.”
“Where are you going?”
“to the cockpit, we’ve got to tell the pilot to take off.” Naia ran up to the dropship’s cockpit pulling Yen along behind her.
“We’re dead…we’re dead….we’re dead…” Yen kept moaning.
“Hey! What are you two doing here!” Naia had run right into the pilot.
“the guys guarding the door said we could, but you need to leave quick Nod are coming to kill us!”
“I highly doubt that, now since you went through all this trouble I an give you a tour but then—“
“We’re not lying Nod is here! They want to kill Naia! They’re commandos, there are two of them!”
“Lets just see.” He took them up to the cockpit and turned on the radio.
“this is GDI heavy 492 requesting info on any Nod activities in the area.”
“Heavy 492 there were two small attack choppers sited about an hour ago half a klick from your current position.
“Understood.” He turned to Naia and Yen. “Sit down we’re getting out of here.”
“Thank you.” Naia said breathing a sigh of relief.
There was a screech as the engines came to life and the dropship lurched away from the facility picking up speed as it climbed. Naia breathed a sigh of relief, they were safe.

Two hours later Naia was jerked awake by Yen.
“What?”
“I’m about a half hour from my next stop, time for you two to get lost.”
“Where?” Naia said sitting up.
“Salvage Station Tao 29.”
“That’s still in a red zone, you can’t let us off there.”
“Why not?”
“Because if they follow us we can’t run, Yen won’t survive in a red zone. She’s not a mutant.”
“Well what would you like me to do? I can’t keep flying you around its against regula—“ the aircraft seemed to drop out from under them.
“We’re under attack!” the pilot said taking the dropship into a steep dive. He activated the rear cameras and saw a pair of small helicopters chasing after them.
“Kid what did you do to piss these guys off?” Naia shrugged. An alarm went off.
“Missiles!” he punched a button and a cloud of chaff shot out the back of the dropship impacting the missiles and blowing them apart. The pilot turned on the radio and shouted over all the military bands.
“This is GDI Heavy 492 to any craft in the area we are under attack by Nod request assistance asap!
“Heavy 492 we have your fix. A squad of orcas is inbound on you position ETA three minutes.”
“I hope we last that long.” He said leveling off near the ground to hide the radar signature of the dropship.
“Can we help?” Yen said leaning over his shoulder.
“Yes sit down and shut up.” then the dropship shuddered and lurched. Naia looked out the window.
“We’re missing something.” She said. One of the engine pods had been blown off causing the dropship to tilt slightly.
“Frak, okay you two I have something, go down and dump the hold, the load is shifting and if we don’t loose the weight the ship will roll and we’ll crash.”
“Gotcha, how do we do that?”
“go down to the entrance to the hold on the left side there is a console. hit the emergency dump, it’s a blue button with a plastic hood.”
“Gotcha.” Naia ran down to stairs towards the cargo hold but before she got there the fighters took out the other engine on that side. The weight imbalance sent the dropship out of control. She was thrown into the wall as they rolled over and over. Then the huge craft hit the ground. The intact engines impacted first and were ripped off. The impact caused the dropship to bounce back into the air before landing again. This time the nose hit and the stuck. The ship flipped over onto its back kicking the nose up again. The nose was flopped over turning the dropship onto its side. It rolled along for a distance before coming to a stop.

Naia groaned and opened her eyes, it was and she couldn’t see anything. She tried to sit up but felt something pressing on her chest, she pushed it off and could see it was a large sheet of light metal formerly one of the hallway wall panels. She stood up looking down what was left of the hallway. huge tears had been torn open to the outside, where the sky was dark and grey. Then she remembered.
“Yen!” she raced down the hallway to get back to the cockpit and nearly fell to her death when she ran into the collapsed stairwell. Grabbing the frame of the doorway she was able to catch herself. Twenty feet below her, the bottom had been torn out of the dropship, revealing a thick coating of tiberium on the ground. She carefully climbed down onto it, and exited the dropship through a gash in the side. The dropship had rolled and scraped along a tiberium field finally stopping when it smashed into a huge tiberium monolith, a huge crystal formation that would sometimes grow in tiberium fields. The impact had caused the dropship to bend around the monolith. Walked slowly around the dropship to the cockpit, climbing over the tiberium crystals,. Then gasped. The entire front had been mashed in by the impact.
“Oh no…” she said running over. She easily climbed up the side since the crushed nose had plenty of handholds. The front of the cockpit had been smashed in and she could see the pilot was dead, his body crushed, but Yen might be alive. She smashed through what was left of the cockpit cutting herself as she broke into it an clawed through the debris to the back.
“Yen?” she said fearfully. She climbed in but no one was there, she exited the cockpit into the hallway and found Yen, she was sitting in a corner, coughing uncontrollably.
“Yen!” she ran over to her and hugged her. Yen stopped coughing and spoke in a raspy voice.
“Naia, something’s wrong.”
“What happened to you?”
“I…I don’t know but I was fine until we crashed, and I wasn’t hurt too bad then.” Naia touched her shoulder, her skin was hot and sticky, almost like it was melting…
“Yen! It’s the tiberium! Its poisoning you, we have to leave.”
“Okay Naia.” She helped Yen to her feet and they walked down the hallway. about halfway along the roof vanished and Naia saw that an air battle was raging overhead. A squad of orcas were dueling a pair of strange bat winged Nod aircraft. It was then that Yen collapsed, her bones unable to hold her up. Naia tried to pick her up but her skin was melting, making her impossible to carry.
“Well this is it I guess.” Yen said remarkably calm. But Naia was breaking up, her face in tears.
“Yen…you can’t die, we’ll figure something out, we’ll save you somehow.”
“Its too late Naia, I’m already too far gone.” Naia cradled Yen’s head in her arms praying for a miracle. She could feel Yen’s skin becoming a liquid, mutating from her best friend into something hideous.
“You can’t give up hope Yen, there’s got to be something we can do.”
“No, it’s over Naia, I’m through.” Yen closed her eyes, and died.” Naia shook her, but she didn’t move.
“No Yen, you can’t go, you can’t be dead. I WON’T LET YOU!!” Naia blinked and when her eyes opened they were glowing bright green. The tiberium in Naia’s body suddenly started to grow, it raced out of her like an explosion coating the entire dropship and the land around it in under a second. It kept growing rapidly eating the dropship until there was nothing left but a dropship shaped shell. The growth send shards of tiberium racing through the air, one of them tore through the left engine on one of the orcas sending it spiraling into the ground. Naia collapsed her eyes returned to normal and she passed out.

Don't worry, it's always quiet in the fan fiction section.

We really need a new purpose for this subforum anyway to give it some life.

I'll have a look at it later, at the moment it's too long and I'm busy doing other things..

Meep!. I found this to be an excellent read. please continue. ^_^

yes, it will take some time, try adding in some images to garner more attention. Blocks of text can be rather intimidating to some people. #Tongue

Chapter 2
Subscension

Naia felt hot breath in her neck and woke up and rubbed her head. She remembered the dropship crashing but after that was a blur, she opened her eyes and stared into the face of a tiny tiberium fiend. It looked like a fuzzy green dog. It licked her face and looked at her with the gentle affection of a puppy. She patted it on the head and sat up, looking around. She was surrounded by three huge spikes of tiberium that rose up around her. the ground was tiberium and so were the strangely shaped walls of green crystal, she sat up and looked around unable to comprehend that she was still in the dropship. She climbed out from another oddly shaped piece of tiberium and stood up. She looked at the piece she had been under and then her eyes widened in horror.
“Oh my god Yen!” She smashed her hand on the tiberium that was covering her friend. “don’t worry I’ll get you out of there! Hang on!” but when she kicked it hard instead of a layer of tiberium coming off the entire arm broke off, Yen wasn’t just coasted in tiberium, she was tiberium.
“Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god….” Naia said tearing up, “Yen, Yen, I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to drag you into this, its all my fault….” She scooped up the little creature that was still sitting at her feet and held it tightly, crying her eyes out. Then there was a loud click behind her and she turned looked down the barrel of a Nod weapon, the soldier holding it raised it to his shoulder.
“Freeze!”

Naia looked at the soldier with passive interest barely noticing him, her mind was elsewhere, it was too much to take in, everything was happening to fast, the room took on a blurry hazy feel, the walls and then everything else vanished into a dull grey. Naia, looked around, there was no weight and no air yet she was fine and her feet touched an invisible ground. She could see nothing but a uniform grayness surrounding her. then she saw a light in the distance beaconing her, it was a doorway, light streamed through it from the other side. She reached out her hand for it and the distance between them shrunk, but she couldn’t tell if it was her moving or the door. As they approached she tried to see past the door, but it was too bright and she couldn’t, she reached out to move inside and when her hand touched the light she was in another place.
It was a courtyard of some sort, four cherry trees were in the corners and pale pink petals blew across the ground, floating and falling like snow. Beyond the trees was shrouded in a glowing white mist, she could start to see walls but beyond that was nothing but a uniform glowing whiteness. The mist seemed to flow in from the edges towards a spot opposite her in the square, it grey brighter until it solidified them dimmed revealing a person.
“Hello Naia.”
It was Yen.

“Yen? Your alive? But the tiberium and….”
“I have moved beyond my former body, they have saved me so they could speak with you, through me.”
“They who?”
“The ones who would see an end to the tiberium plaguing the Earth, the originators, the propagators, the source of all, the Kaynii.”
“What are you talking about Yen?”
“I am no longer Yen, that existence has ended, I have changed, I am one of the others, we speak as one, and we are as one, are many.”
“What do you mean?”
“I cannot explain it more then I already have, it is impossible to do so, but no this, it is your destiny to save us, we are dying, our race is nearly extinct, you must save us.”
“How? From what? What are you talking about?”
“the others have nearly wiped us out, destroying our home, using it as a weapon to spread their power.”
“The others?”
“The ones who would use our powers to increase their own, the ones who see our home as a weapon, the ones who retain the flesh, the ones who have twisted us, the conquerors, the corrupters, the destroyers, the scrin.”
‘What are you talking about? I don’t understand. Who are the scrin?”
“The scrin are as we once were, but they have not accepted to crystal, they see it as a weapon, and have twisted us, turning our crystal into something ugly.”
“I don’t understand!”
“You see us now as we once were, but we have been altered, twisted, by the scrin, we are the last of the pure Kaynii, we are protected in you.”
“What happened to the rest of you?”
Around Naia the trees turned bare and the ground grew worn and cracked, the white mist turned a deep grey. The ground broke open and tiberium crystals burst through the surface. Yen’s face cracked and bright green light shown out of the cracks. Yen’s voice grew dark and twisted. The trees in the corner were being mutated by the tiberium.
“Look at us Naia! This is what they did to us! This is what we have become! A plaque! A curse! A thoughtless collection of crystals! Unable to contain our power! Forced to watch as we are used to conquer countless worlds! This is what they have done to us! And will do to you!” a wind grew strongly, blowing through the square, blowing away the mist. And Naia saw that for miles around lay strange cities, wrecked and desolate, tiberium grew out of cracks in the structures, dark clouds flew overhead and lightning strikes dotted the landscape.
“This is the fate that befell us! Our cities lie in ruins! Our bodies changed from our pure form into simple crystals! And the fate that awaits you! You must stop the scrin!”
“How?!” Naia shouted over the wind.
“The Tacitus! It holds the key to our imprisonment! And our salvation! You must find the tacitus! Before the scrin do! Go quickly! And beware the ones who would betray you to the scrin!” Yen’s body exploded into a tiberium crystal, tiberium grew rapidly covering the cities, even the trees it had mutated, until there was nothing left. Then slowly the tiberium died, it had consumed everything and there was nothing left for it. it slowly turned black and eroded away to nothing.
A bolt of lightning landed in front of her and everything vanished in a flash of white.
