Ironically.. crowbar is probably the BEST tool to have with you in a zombie panic. It's light enough to be carried easily (let it dangle from a belt loop works well), heavy enough to be used as a melee weapon, and quite useful for prying stuff open + other tool-related uses. _________________ "Banned" RP here QUICK_EDIT

Dont be a retard. You have to get close to the ztyping zombies to use it. You're in biting range to use that crowbar. Melee weapons are strictly last resort. Dont say Katana, either. I am sure some weeaboo will say it and clench his Made In China replica Katana. Well, Sorry, Samurai Jack, those are factory made, and wont stand up against a Zombie at all. It'll lodge in the bone, the cheap glue will break from the blade, and the handle will be in your hand while a Zombie gnaws your ztyping head off. I'll take my Mosin Nagant, thank you.
Single shot, long distance weapons are the best. Automatics waste bullets, so dont get an AK and switch it to auto and go 'I AM LEET!!!1'. When you're clips are all emptied into the Zed's chest, and his ass is shuffling closer, Boo ztyping hoo. I hope you get killed right after the want to be Samurai. also, Zombie Survival Guide? I specified "TOOL", dumbass. Not weapon. TOOL. there's a difference. I only added the "heavy enough to be a melee weapon" bit as more proof it's versatility. Besides, if you're accurate + strong enough to one-hand it, you can out-range a zed's biting range. Slashing, no.
Weapon-wise, however, yes, single-shot at range is better. HOWEVER.. if it's close range, I'll take a SPAS15, thank you very much. Mag-fed shotgun. Or possibly a Glock 9mm or something accurate with common, easily-acquired ammo. _________________ "Banned" RP here QUICK_EDIT

All you have to do is board up almost any residential/commercial and make sure you have a vehicle. Weapons are a bonus if you need it. You just have to HIDE, why confront and risk you're life when you can just wait it out in a mall or the sort. Even if all the dead arose at once, there would be enough organization in most countries that people like S.W.A.T. and the army could take care of it. Its the third-world countries that might be the problem. If they cant contain the problem all you have to do is quarantine the country/countries affected with a leave and be shot policy, send in task forces and if all else fails, nuke the "problem areas". Or a baseball bat. Not that I have a problem with cricket, it's just that a cricket bat is much heavier than an aluminum baseball bat. A fire poker might also do a good job on them. Or, if all else fails, you could go Pete Townshend on them with an electric guitar (acoustic would probably not do very much at all).
Another approach that I don't think anyone has covered is to pelt them with rocks/beer bottles/other fairly heavy projectiles from a few metres away. _________________ QUICK_EDIT

Home Depot is good...but i think any sports store is better because there is aluminum bats and other sports gear like a catchers mask and don't forget the pocket knives some stores sell and hatchets.But a second Choice is Walmart they got almost everything and more if you go to a super Walmart. I wasn't ignoring the crowbar...Home Depot's got em' and they're a nice heavy weapon; but if you're gonna take something heavy, you might as well take the chainsaw and nailgun's (dual nailguns = dual uzi's )

Hmm...you've got me there. That's a definite downfall that could get you killed...and you'd need a pretty long extension cord for the chainsaw. So I guess Crowbars and Bats are the best choice; PERIOD!

I you do happen to have a few katanas lying around at your house go back quick and don't get caught going back cause as soon a one sees you there'll be a swarm of zombies coming for you. But some people don't have all these weapons lying around so i would just say take any blunt tools or anything that wont break when you hit a zombie over the head. Also if you have a few butcher knives at home and other knives (not butter knives) take them and if you have a food store nearby go and block off all entrances.
And if your in the army or was in the army or the police force then its allot easier cause then you'd probably have a gun or two. QUICK_EDIT

Shooting a bullet in him will no kill, or slow the zombie down. Sure you can empty and entire magazine into his head, but than you'll waste your ammo.
Baseball bats are good, but when you have dozens of zombies descending on you, it's a certain death. Same goes for blades.
You need some with an efficient ranged weapon, something like a shotgun. However, the shotgun is hard/slow to reload, so you'll need someone with a baseball bat/blade to protect the shooter while he reloads. QUICK_EDIT
Take to the sea and only go ashore for food and supplies, if your lucky you will stumble apon a Trident submarine xD..and you will know what to do..It's all so clear now :p QUICK_EDIT
