Hi! I heard you were making a C&C3 TC set in RA1 and, as a huge fan of that game, I had to join this forum. Very Happy

First of all, I wanted to congratulate you for deciding to make this mod. It looks very promising, and I can't wait to get my hands on it. As a fan, I fully support this mod.

But, as a true supporter, I want this mod to be the best it can be, and a good way to make it even better it is to point out the things that can be improved, making some constructive criticism. And I have a couple of suggestions as well.

Let's start with the basic premise of your mod:

Quote:
Red Europe is a mod for Command & Conquer 3 that takes place during the Great World War 2 of Red alert. While we all know about the major battles that took place on the European front through Germany, Greece, Poland and into Russia itself... what about the missions behind the scenes?

I really like this idea. The prospective of playing as an unheard-of commander in dirty, bloody missions that will hardly make it into history books immediately caught my interest, as is something that you hardly see in a game (except maybe for World in Conflict).

So it was a bit of a let-down when I read this:

Quote:
Command British, German, Russian, Chinese, French and even American forces in the battles that determine the outcome of the Great World War 2 as you are taken to battles ranging from the Europe to Asia and even the Americas themselves.

While including the Chinese does indeed seem a good idea, and battles on American soil are original in a RA1 setting, playing a British, German, or French army hardly seems "new". Those were the forces you commanded in the RA campaign, and, while it would indeed be good to command them again, fighting yet another battle in Germany might be annoying.

What'd be really original would be to focus on countries that Westwood almost ignored. Like Norway and Sweden, that were right in the line of fire, or Japan (I'm glad that you mentioned it). Heck, even Italy was mostly ignored, tough it would probably have been attacked by Yugoslavia and Lybia (BTW, since WWII never happened, would Italy still be ruled by Mussolini? Creepy). What about Spain?

About graphics: Well, I can't really say anything, because I know that you're just using APB models as placeholders. I just wanted to ask Which path are you going to follow in modelling the units. Are you going to base the models on the FMVs, on ingame sprites, on both, or on the real world vehicles that'd have been used in such a situation?

Final suggestion:
I don't know how useful this can be, but the RaRegeneration mod is dead, and the mod team is willing to donate all their content to a mod team willing to make a RA TC for C&C3. Maybe you could try to contact them.

Keep up the good work! Very Happy

ReGen is donating their content? What a pity. Turned out exactly like Road to Moscow.

Personally, I think it is a fatal flaw of adding America. They played no real role in the first RA1 and hence should not now. The only time an american even featured in RA1 was with the PS1 expansion Retaliation, and even then it did not fit with the entire scenario. However, I do agree, that more european countries should be included. The use of mainland europe as a giant battlefield with each country showing a variation of the Allied war machine would be impressive.

*Cough*

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnwKNynuqYw If those soldiers are European soldiers I'll eat my hat. Not to mention that all the Allied military equipment is American.

In any case, thank you for writing this post. Smile I'll give a more detailed followup in a week or so. Unfortunately the upcoming release of APB is eating my time up all good and well.

When i see any RA based project, i hope that they keep the original countries, not that i am against you adding America, but i feel you should keep the original countries.

America undoubtely played a part in the final Allied victory, as is written in Cypher's C&C canon, that's why I think it's a good idea to include them.

But not all of the allied equpment was American. The medium tank, for example, FMVs aside, is not an M1. Proof is, its sprite is completely different from the TD one. It would have been strange to re-make a sprite for the same tank, while keeping old TD sprites for completely different vehicles, wouldn't it?

Cypher's canon is not C&C canon.

Also, please fix the flaw that is 'Russia'. Its the Soviet Union, not Russia. All 15 states, including Ukraine, fight under one banner in war.

BTW, here is a much better version of the Red Alert wars, in my opinion. Better then Westwood or any fan crap.

Some of the pics, hardware wise are terribly wrong, but, its far more thorough.

Actually, Cypher's canon, written with advice and suggestions from former westwood devs, is the closest thing to an official canon the community has. I can't say the same for the article you linked. Sorry, but the fact it is detailed doesn't make it more true to canon.

Red Napoleon.
The RA1 part felt like a WWII rewrite with some Allies/Soviets plug-ins
RA2 and beyond was bullshit.

Stick with the better canon- Cypher's.
I don't want WWII with Allies/Soviets sub'd in.
