Different Plot Lines
Subject description: Is it possible?
As some of you know, I'm making a post FS campaign for Tiberian Sun.
Now, I've came up with this idea and tried to implement it. I've got a bunch of IE's so I'm not sure how to follow through with this.
In map X, during the mission, the player gets the option to chose what to do, if he chooses one thing he gets to lead GDI forces, if he chooses another way, he gets to lead the Nod forces; all of this works well, however I want to take it further (Starcraft fans will get what I mean most probably): Is there a way to create two different lines of follow up maps that you play based on what you chose?
I know bonus maps are possible, but I'm talking about splitting one campaign into two.
I remember someone saying that the order of the maps is hardcoded, so I'm not sure it's possible.
Edit:
Mission 2:
* Choice X -> mission 3 -> mission 4 -> etc.
* Choice Y -> alt mission 3 -> alt mission 4 -> etc.

I think FS has so called "Global trigers" or something like that... I forgot how exactly it's called and I don't make single player maps. Anyone can offer more info? _________________ DUNK! QUICK_EDIT
I believe there are hardcoded issues with the campaign, several people have tried and had difficulties with it. But I cannot elaborate on specifics.
However, Global triggers, which can be used in maps, can relate to alternate follow-up maps. This was used in several places in the original TS campaign (like the bonus missions with helping the mutants).
This was something which was initially heavily planned into Tiberium Odyssey, but the campaign was never actually started. There is a lot of potential with map-modding to make a really interactive campaign. _________________ If there is a problem on the forums, PM me. QUICK_EDIT
That is possible IIRC, but im not a mapping person.
The game does not decide what side you are when you play, only what map to load. The maps coding has the side you play for.
Kinda what Muldrake said, i would presume that you would have to make on side all normal missions and the others a spring off of it by "bonus" missions, could force the game to work that way.
Also, could AltScenario= do this? Maybe triggers too... QUICK_EDIT
Using AltScenario it would in theory be possible. However the missions would still have to be part of only one sides progression, so you'd have to fake it being the other side using preplaced buildings and owner changes in the maps. QUICK_EDIT
Is doable in theory. Look at the rescue tratos missions for example.
At the mission selection screen you have two missions to choose from.
1. Destroy the sensor array
2. Rescue tratos
There are two maps named rescue tratos.
One is choosable directly from the mission screen.
The other is played after destroy the sensor array.
The other dosen't have to be the same as the one on the mission screen, and eventually dosen't have to lead to the same map as the first rescue tratos. So you can make two diffrent scenarios (or how many you want) but its very time consuming.
I made a small chart if its easier to understand.
Also, please note that this is not doable by outcome of a mission but only through the map selection screen as far as Iam concerned.
Yes I know that all this has been said before(most of it anyway) but this should clear things up for everyone who still don't get it.
