Also in the submission provide details about your design. Write up a short back story to add to your design if it needs it or some document to detail how the design works, lives or breathes.
Rules. -Guidelines all subject to change.
You can only submit one final submission to a judge or organizer (myself) via PM.
Format. JPG or .PNG format. Maximum dimensions and file size are set by the forum rules.
WIPs are encouraged. allow your work to be exposed for critique before the final solution and also tells us about your methodology.
Judges cannot enter the contest. I am considering entering but I might stick with judging.
Due date is Feb. 2008. (official day will be set, subject to change.)

@Tartan Bunny:This particular contest revolves around the themes I randomly picked. I encourage people to find a medium they use. just not .shp or voxel.
It is a challenge because some might not be as interesting, but its your job to make it so.

C.O.W contests.
They pick a particular theme and people try to best visualize it. My favorite being the "Most Useless Creature".

@IVI: At this time I am keeping them as the only choices per theme. I know people are not as eager to something that does not interest them but I want to see how people do when poised with a different kind of challenge.
Although I am wondering if possible being a little flexible in allowing submissions of expectational effort. that deviate from what I asked . but at a cost of losing a fair amount of points for not attempting the challenge.
I am also glad to see the turnout thus far. =]

Ok, so here's mine. It's far from finished; it's still lacking a lot of major details as well as color. But Ickus said that WIPs are welcome so I figured why not post this piece of crap and get feedback while Im doing it.
It's a GDI wolverine battle armor, drawn yesterday. I was eating breakfast when I accidentally got some cooking oil on the corner of drawing. You can see the blot on the lower left corner -.-
It's sloppy I know, but it's nothing that a little photoshop can't fix.
If you don't like it then tell me why. And Ill make something else.

it is a little different from the original..but its nice rehash on what we come to know as the "Wolverine"

@IVI. Yes. Revolutionize what I listed suggested as a challenge. redesign. something that might not be as interesting.
Like Gosho mentioned. but go beyond adding new things.
For Example: wrote:
If I was going to redesign Kane. I would take what I know. Kane=Messiah of Nod. Bald dude w/ goatee.
Then use that as something to build off of but avoid in my final design.
Toss out the old Joe Kucan look and go for something entirely new.
I would then him different facial features and body types fat,skinny,etc, and some new clothes.. maybe he likes wearing band shirts,fishnets and combat boots.yes why not neon colored hair...a mohawk. add in some piercings. black nail polish and unmatching contact lens..maybe one of the Nod logo..and hell some tattoos even.
but he would have to be convincing to be a leader of Nod. of course you can also reimagine what Nod is as well toss out terrorist group and play around with it....hrm why not a industrial/punk band. give him a custom Nod logo guitar and pose him jamming with the rest of the Black Hand crew gas mask and all as they pwn the stage with their 00ntz launchers etc..
Here's just a quick sketch I took into PSP7 nothing fancy. I based from what I thought its not final I can change things around if I wanted. hairstyle, clothes..etc. maybe I dont want to do punkrocker Kane. but I like the idea of him leading a band of sorts...maybe a boyband. But of course leads to the WTF..its no longer a valid idea unless we do some weird abstract C&C battle of the Bands mod. would be interesting to see someone pull that one. give new meaning to Sonic Tanks.

the buzzwords I chose are merely is a starting points since the concept can just be about anything..its the artwork that sells that idea.

I guess its best to keep general.
The categories will be
Creature.
(natural or organic things.)
Character.
(Sentient beings. mainly people or anthropomorphic..plz no furries. >_<)
Vehicles/Machinery.
(mechs,aircraft.etc)
Architecture.
(Structures, interiors)
obviously is possible blur the lines. Just keep in mind what your designing and put it where you feel it belongs.

pretty much this fits the creature concept...but it can blur into the character concept if it was given more of a personality..ever seen..that animation of space monkeys? ah i forget. captain something..
Alright, well sounds like a plan to me. everyone fine with the 9th of feb? I am not sure how it will go for myself, since I start up again with classes next week, but as things get nearing extensions are possible. but its good to have a date set for people not to...procrastinate.
