For example, here in australia you go to the movies and see American films, there arnt any aussie ones, its because Hollywood has paid the cinema companies money to only show yank films, and it's getting damn anoying. If I ran for president;
pull out of war
cut peace time army costs in half.
give 1 quarter of that to education
with the other quarter start a new initiative to get people out of the suburbs and into the cities. The automobile was the cause of the suburb, and since gasoline in a finite resource, the suburb is the biggest mistake in US history, it's a complete waste of space, fuel, and resources. It creates a communte, highways, pollution etc etc. The only reason they exist is because of cars and now that cars are comming to end in a decade or so, it's time for suburbs to end. With greater urban planning we can have cleaner cities with better subways and busses. Gasoline consuption would drop to an unbeleiveable low rate, abandoned suburbs could be changed into national parks, help the enviorment regrow back to what it was.
As a preliminary to the above statement, I might wait on it for a couple years and repay back the american debt (the true cause for the low USD imo), and try to get a goverment monopoly on all public transportation. All railway, roadway, canal, and airports should be owned by the goverment. Why should public busses and trains be owned by companies making a profit? We would save the that they would make as profit, cut out the overhead (big bosses and CEOs), and provide healthcare for the employees.

Consider the alternative; a land invasion that possibly would have left far more dead on the Japanese side, and on our side... well we didn't really lose any men by using nukes since they were air-dropped, consider how much we would have lost in a land invasion. It was the best possible course of action to end the war quickly, no matter how you look at it.
