I've been working on models for a while now for this mod so I figured I'd announce it. It started out as a classic man vs man story line, but my friend decides, "lets throw in some aliens!" All I can say was fine. So heres the basic storyline.

The year is 2394, a battle breaks out between the government that now runs the whole world and an organization made of the people brave enough to rise up. The battlefield is coded like the current terror warning index.

-Blue: Deep allied territory(low prob of attack)
-Green: Near frontline(artillary bombardment possible,attacks likely)
-Yellow: Frontline(constant attacks,deserted by civilians when possible)
-Orange: Enemy fallback area(easy to push forward)
-Red: Deep enemy territory(near impenetrable)
-Black: Area around alien landings(toxic,heavy fighting)

Once the fighing started the aliens showed up. They rely on advanced weaponry years ahead of the United Earth Defences. I will try to make a few new gamemodes:

Strain: There is NO money on the map and your limited to basic units and no defence structures.

Defence: One player starts out with a huge base but no recources and the other player starts out with a smaller base and surplus recources.

Defence(Co-op): Both players start out with a medium base while the aliens bombard both bases until time runs out. Survival is unlikely.

Siege: Both players start out with little money but the neutral base has plenty of it. Taking over this base almost garuntees success.

Wormhole: Both players only get a few building and a wormhole that spawns units. Once the wormhole is destroyed, the player is defenceless.

I might have to research how to do these if its even possible.

Units-UAD

Trooper: Basic infantry with a machine gun.

Engineer:Captures buildings.

Technician: Engineer with a sidearm.

AT Infantry: Armed with a rocket launcher to take out tanks and aircraft.

UED Sniper:Armed with the finest sniper rifle in the world, the UED Sniper can take out infantry from a great distance.

Armada Dog: Geneticly enhanced attack dog that can bite through even personal plate armor.

LARX trooper: LARX stands for Laser Assault Rifle eXperimental. Using stolen technology, these troops are armed with the best assault rifles in the world. They instantly burn up infantry and do moderate damage to light vehicles. But due to its early stages, you can only have 10 deployed at a time.

Field Commander: This is the UED leader unit. He sports heavy armor that can take extreme amounts of damage. He is armed with a MR093 grenade launcher that can take out even vehicles. The easiest way to take him out is with a sniper.

Refractor Tank: Basic medium tank for the United Earth Defence. It can take moderate fire from explosives, but the key to its success is its immunity against laser weaponry. Its sole purpose is to bypass the alien's laser weaponry. Although it is still able to be damaged by their plasma and darkmatter weapons.

Minert: A light transport with a 20mm MG mounted on it.

Dread Missiles:The UED mobile AA defence. When deployed, it can shoot down enemy aircraft. When not deployed, it can use the missiles as dumb-fire artillery.

F-62:Using tech from the USA, they made the next generation of close ground support aircraft. It is armed with 2 1.5 ton bombs that are useful against buildings.

Units-PF

Stinger: Infantry with the sole purpose of anti air. They can take down most jets in 1-3 missile impacts. But the missiles are radar guided and arent good vs tanks, infantry, or aircraft flying at night.

Sniper: Uses a customized .458 magnum rifle to shoot long range.

Revolution Leader: Leader unit for the PF. His main weapon is a bullean thermal grenade that will destroy infantry and burn through tank hulls and explode from the inside. Easiest way to take him out is with a sniper.

Re-Evolution Fighter: Using stolen blueprints from the UED. The People's Fist scientists are capible of geneticaly engineering troops to be near bullet proof. When they die, their cellular structure destabilizes and explodes, leaving behind a nasty residue capible of destabilizing other troops with prolonged exposure.

IED: A barrel filled with plutonium and strapped with a proximity mine and explodes when a vehicle drives beside it. Leaves chemical residue.

Ravenger: This is the main transport for the People's Fist. It is built out of scavenged starship armorplates and a titanium frame. It is a bulky 32 ton monstrocity that can take a tank shell and shrug it of. It has a .97 cal/TOW Mk.IV attachment taken off of an antique Humvee from the 2100's. The TOW has a copper/plastique warhead that is moderate against tanks and devistating against light vehicles and aircraft.

Hummer: A civilian humvee modified with gunports. Holds 4 extra people.

News Helicopter: Basicly what it states. Cant take much fire but holds a 20mm.

UED story:
In the mid 2200's, after the Russian/Chinese communist colapse, a large business called the United Arms Defences Company used its wealth to spread propoganda and gain influence with the lower classes. It got the support and armed these new revolutionists. It didn't take long for them to take Russia, outnumbering the Russian army 50 to 1. After that, Russia was under UADC control. Once they rebuilt Russia's economic infrastructure, they used Russia's industries and their knowledge of weapons to make the 3rd most advanced army in the world(with the UN in first and the US in 2nd). After they had an army of 5 million, the new leader of Russia order a full advancement towards China. China still had an army of 8 million, but the UADC had a 50/1 kill/death ratio with most of the soldiers. After China was taken over, the rest of the countries were easy. Unlike other empires, the UADC was smart. They left each newly conquered country its own governing body(always a trusted member of the UADC) and kept the citizens happy to stop uprisings. At 21:32 on Feb. 12, 2197, they took the Canada, making them rulers of the entire globe. Aside from the usual crime, riots, and gangs we see today, their was complete peace. But in December 30, 2365, a new leader was appointed after the passing of John McLanly, a new change came about. His son, Hanes McLanly, got greedy. Taxes grew to extreme rates. July 17, 2382, a group of unarmed protesters are outside of Hanes' gates in Moscow when he gives a grim order. His gaurds open fire on the group with lethal force. Men, woman, and children are all mowed down. This promped the formation of the People's Fist.

People's Fist story:
After the Massicre of Moscow, this slowly growing resistance movement sprung into full force. The People's Fist was able to gain help without a problem. The first strike was the original United Arms Defence Company in Irkutsk. They met small resistance as they launched several distractory attacks on Moscow and thier main HQ, Magadan and its ports used to supply oil from Alaska, and Noril'sk and its nuclear stock pile. Their original plan was to take all the sites, but only the old HQ was taken. From this they armed themselves with now antique weaponry but it was still effective. Realizing they were going to be attacked, they pulled all forces to the HQ. Using old explosives stockpiles, they blew a small hole through the enemy and retreated with their new tech. They then moved to Omsk to get out of the country unnoticed when they met a new threat...

Aaorlu Story:
The great transtellar Aaorlu empire once stretched across countless worlds and sought to claim great power,until it was destroyed in a great cataclysm. Fortunately for the Aaorlu a number of isolated shipyards located at the outskirts of there territory survived and were used to construct and rally an enormous armada. A great fleet with only one purpose, to find a world
suitable for habitation, or terraformation to serve as a new home for their empire. After decades of searching the fleet started receiving transmissions from a more than suitable planet. a small world fighting amongst itself, for the Aaorlu an opportunity far too good the resist. A world called Earth would play host to the rise of their new empire.

It is still very early to think too much into game mechanics..but this is the fun part.

Now is adding character to your three sides so you can design their units and structures around them.

Try to avoiding falling into cliche's or things that we already seen. Also traps and feature creep where you start simple, yet keep adding loads of work for yourself.

I suggest you really flesh out two of the sides...then work on any thing else.

Write up the history of this government. how did it coming to power? Why? What are it's motives? Who is in charge, why? etc..

Also same for the other side. Why do they rebel? obvious reasons but its just more than that. Are there any leaders...etc.

and of course the same goes with the aliens? besides your friends adding them in... Why? what do they have to do with this? Motives? are they allied with one side or the other? Maybe they maniuplate one team for the other or maybe they help both?

explore each groups psyche, what makes them tick. What kind technology?..how does that look? etc.

Research and look up things that you might like this is critical so as not to come off as a another rip off of what everyone has already seen.

Hi.

I like your idea for the mod, the storyline does sound a little familiar, but hey, there are very few original plots out there these days. Maybe try and add one really unique element to the plot that sets it apart from all the other government oppression underclass type story lines.

Apart from that, I'd really advise you just try and create one single unit (your favorite is a good plan so it keeps you interested) you say you've been making models, choose one and get it into the game, then release it and ask for feedback, you might get some great ideas from people. Just get something out there other than a plot line, and get it on mod DB. (as long as you have actual content they will probably approve it). Don't put it up there till you have some actual content though as they don't accept story lines alone.

Also check out the fist version of the mod me and my modding friend have been working on. Its real simple and doesnt change the game massively, but it might give you a few ideas.

Yes, I totally agree on reading the Moddb.com tutorials is a great suggestion. and the place to go.

yea also watch out, the concepts of Aliens, Zombies,Ninjas.."modern warfare" etc are mere gimmicks..avoid trying to <i>sell</i> your mod or idea using these types of words to generate hype.

What I don't understand is that the bunker is of a high quality and actually looks good, while the others (no offence intended here by the way) look terrible. I know they're work in progress', but I highly reccomend you re-do both of them. Otherwise, You're getting better at 3D Modeling. Keep it up, I hope to see some high quality structures like the bunker.

If you look really close, you can make out a nose. It's a bit too simple for my liking, a lot of your work does look really similar, try making something a bit more complex and... Bigger.

Some of the work here looks interesting but then again quite a lot of it needs more work, I suggest you spend a bit longer on texturing and a bit more time on models themselves and I'm sure the quality will rise significantly.

And I'm sorry for saying this but that sign image looks a bit like, umm a reproductive cell from that angle...

I do agree that the modeling needs work, while its not bad its just its really the design is just not coming across as appealing.

Research designs and really look up concept art...I know you put in alot of work into trying to sell the unit with its armorment and speficiations but its the image or presentation you should be more focused in.

Without knowing what you wrote about the billard it still reads as being overpowered with weaponry and a improbable design.

Also the stop sign again..is the appeal factor and research..it does not seem to be plausiable to be bent as such...and as morpher said it does not "read" as a damaged stop sign.

I am being a little harsh for a reason, but I hope you can use these crictisms constructively.

Heres the current work on a new tank for the Civilian Defence.

The Ergrix is an early devopement tank of the Europe/Asia arms race. it has a mid-range 125mm cannon with low damage but a higher rate of fire then the UED's main tank. Its secondary weapon is a .50 cal mounted to either side of the turret that can be used to chew through infantry. Its main weakness is its armor deteriorates at a rapid speed when faced with eccessive heat. Its biggest strength is that its the only vehicle unaffected by EMP because of the armor's deteriorating property. It is the lightest tank of the three main tanks.(Cost=1290)

that looks interesting. the shape. I would remove the smoke stacks. the textures are too abrupt. and the TD silo like shapes.

also the tank. the proportions are off. it appears overly smushed. Neutral

Its supposed to be a SP building made for the arctic(hence the shape). I'll remove the silos, change the texture, and reshape the 2nd floor. The shape was really hard to build. the second floor is just a streched out half a sphere.

what are you using? GMAX?

also, play around with the elements, smoke stacks, shapes...this type of stuff should be left in the concept phase. have fun with it, and forget trying to be so literal with the designs. Smile

I am using Blender but I'll copy to Gmax when Its done. I'm a perfectionist, if it isnt realistic(or damn near it) it just won't do. You have no idea how many designs me and Jevasi have gone through because of engine limits and realism. Oh, the reason I'm on right now. Since I never needed to find the exemp.txt, if an IE occures, where can you find the exempt.txt?

I redid the texture on the building and removed the silos and chimneys. All thats left are small details and frost details.

Looks way better now, also nice texture. However you should change the wrapping of the entrance "tunnel", just were it fuses with the building since it looks odd. Perhaps making that part black would look better.

This next image will hint at the current mode being worked on:

Yes, space battles. It will be the 5th campaign map for the UED as well as a multiplayer mode. I will change the lunar terrain to the space terrain. Also, the modes being removed from multiplayer:
Meat Grinder (Replaced by "Strain")
Navel War (Replaced by "Space")
Air War (Replaced by "Space")
Unholy Allience (Replaced by "Defence")
Campaign missions (Replaced by "Coop Defence")
Mega Wealth (Replaced by "Wormhole")

About the unit in the picture, its untextured as I lack good texturing skills.

Space units(UED):

Heavy Assault Frigate(as seen in topic): Heaviest space transport in the UED fleet. It is armed with quad ion cannons for structures and launches fighters from its docking bays(6 Nats). The Anat is capable of using 20mm MGs on its left wing to take out other fighters and mini-nuke missiles to take out other heavy ships.

Fighter Nat:These fighters are equipt to fly solo. Because of the weight lost by the removal of the nuclear payload, its now fast enough to be useful alone. Its 20mm is now equipt with more AP ability which allows it to pierce heavy frigate armor.

Bomber Nat: This varient of the Nat carries a nuclear payload. It carries one 5 mega-ton bomb. After it drops its bomb, it has to come back to a Nuclear Pad. It doesnt have any anti-ship weapons so it will have to have escorts.

I dont know about any of the Alien ships as Jevasi has all the ideas for them.

Here is the work on the UED fighters.

From left to right: Nat, Fighter Nat, Bonber Nat.
It mainly needs work on is textures and the wings(their just extruded cubes).

I think you need to vary the concepts for the 3, they all look roughly the same with different dimensions and armaments. They could use some work. Confused

I want to do the sidebars and main menu but I dont know what to use. I would like to know if anyone would have any good suggestions for OS editors that can do animated gifs.
I can currently use:
-Ulead PhotoImpact 10(I can use this for the ingame sidebar, no animated gifs)
-MS Paint(Duh!)
-Adobe Package CS3(I could use this but I can only use it in my computer graphics class)

I only need an animated gif editor/creator for the main menu. Any sugestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Everybody i'm here.
Ok I am Jevasi, co-creator and creative consultant for the aliens. Ok first of sorry for the extreme delay but I got very distracted. So anyway here is the first completed model for the aliens. The Overseer light cruiser.


I also have the first draft of the aliens storyline, note I may and probably will make changes.

..um..not sure what I am seeing here, get some schematic shots. ie. renders with 3/4 perspective or turn arounds with a light grey background. Look up model sheets to see what I mean..

also, backstory is nice but how does this unit function ingame?

From what he told me online it fires lasers and its a light heavy support ship. Also you told me that you were only so-so in blender Jevasi... I'd use it for a main assault ship rather than a support ship. You put my first renders to shame...

Ok well Apex that sounds like a good idea form now on the overseer is now the Aaorlu main assault ship. Next I have finally have a good shot of it

I hate to say it but all those shots are um... crap. I cant see much of the model's detail. What you should do is render like this:


See how the camera is near centered at an angle on the cube? and the lights right behind the camera.

All useful information about the mod is moved to the top.

The current unit being worked on by me is the heavy assault frigate:

This modified commercial cargo ship is now the most powerful ship in the UED's quickly rounded up fleet against the Aliens advanced ships. It is sporting 2 cannons that shoot 5 ton plutonium rounds. Plutonium is easily accesable because of storage piles left from years of nuclear power being used. Its engines are x6 UAD MTR-132s and x9 UAD QBS-71s. Its power system is 4 fusion reactors housed near the engines. Within its hanger are 4 nats that are used against medium and light ships. The cannons are used against heavy and main ships and any space-bound structures.

Yeah, it's randomly crinkled near the engines and it just doesn't look right. the cannons are TOO potruding, try and make it look aerodynamic, if it ever has to take off/land it'll go nowhere with a shape like that.

The crinkles will be fixed on the back and front(thank subsurfing for the crinkles). The ship is not made for atmospheric reentry so aerodynamics aren't an issue. Its made to dock at off planet stations for rapid deployment. The cannons are quick modifications to the ships hull to reduce production costs.

It just doesn't look right, I don't know why, it has too many weak points, make the cross-section spherical or hexagonal, it'll look better I reckon.
