I am making a multiplayer map based off the 1969 movie Castle Keep.
http://imdb.com/title/tt0064137/

I have a couple quick questions about Final Alert 2.

1. How do I change a unit's name? I have some AI units placed on the map (they are not meant to be built by players) that are neutral and I want them to have different names when you mouseover them. For example I have a Navy Seal and I want it to say Major Falconer when I mouse over him. I tried double clicking the units and typing in under "Attached Tag" but that didn't seem to do anything.

2. How do you rename Buildings? Pretty much the same question as above. Remember, these buildings are already placed and aren't meant to be under the player's build options. I also tried typing in the name I wanted under "Attached Tag" but still had no success.

3. How do you give veteran status to the neutral AI units I spoke of in #1? When the map starts I want some of these units to have already been promoted twice, and some to have been promoted once. I tried double clicking the units and changing "Veteran" from 0 to 1. This had no effect.

Please remember that this is NOT meant to be a modded map. All I want to change are AI unit and building names, and give veteran status to AI units. If anone needs more info just ask. If you want to take a look at what I have so far, I can give you a download link for the map file.

Thanks for your help!

well for your veteran problem double click on the desired unit go to veteran status and instead of 0 make it 3 i usually do 999 but the game reads it as regular elite. for your name changing u cannot do it without modding i believe (if i'm wrong please correct me). the attached tag does not change the name it adds specific triggers to the unit. to change the name u must get the units code thingy which is not hard just put your mouse over the desired unit in fa2. look on the bottom left and it should show the code. for example the navy seals code is GHOST. once u have gotten ur units code follow the steps...(in this we will use the seal)

1.) make sure your fa2 is in advanced mode (to enable this go to options and uncheck beginner mode)

2.) go to edit and scroll all the way down to ini editing.

3.) a box should open and click on the "add" button above the white box. (once clicked on another box should open)

4.) add your units code (example if this is the seal we add GHOST) it MUST be in caps keep in mind this is case sensitive

5.) once added click on the little arrow and scroll down until u find GHOST. click on it

6.)now under the "keys" is another add button click it and add the following code.

UIName = (your units name) make sure that there are no spaces in UINAME.

close the boxes save and tad-aa.

sorry if this is not clear or whatnot its my first step by step tutorial for some1

i hope it helps Smile

oh and the same goes for buildings just get the code and do the exact same thing as the seal (except for name of course) on another note this will display the Missing:(units name) string this happens because this string does not exist it can be fixed but u will need the string editor which i forgot the link to Embarassed but then it wont be a mod map it'll be turning into a real mod (im prob wrong)

If you do this, then all the seal's names will change, basically, the only way to change hios name is to clone him and change the name of the clone, aka modding the map! Same goes for buildings. For the dude starting as a veteran, I think there is a trigger for this (which once you make a trigger, you attach it to the guy under tag).

In conclusion, if you want to change his name, you have to mod.

Yeah, I felt like getting the point accross that you have to mod it. (in a side note the FA2 ini editor is kinda buggy, I suggest as most people here that you open it up in notepad).

Hey thanks for the help and quick responses!

The veteran status works great and also naming buildings and units is also working. Just like you said, MISSING appears in front of all custom names, but that's not a big concern at the moment.

Is it possible to name the units by their ID numbers rather than names like GHOST, E1 and SNIPE? When I mouseover I see "INFANTRY: ID 6, SEAL (Civillian, GHOST)". If there is a way to name by ID number would that give that name only to that specific ID? I'm not quite sure what you mean by cloning but I'll mess around in FA2 and see if I can figure it out.

Once again, thanks for your help!

you can't clone when modding a map, only when modding the entire game

I suggest using infantry that you don't plan on using (civilians and/or animals for example). Change all the tags so it's the same as the Seal (Weapon, strength, image, etc.) and let all of them have different names

No, the ID is how the game knows what unit it's about.

DaFool heeft gelijk Bos187... Je kan kopiëen maken van eenheden/gebouwen in een zelfgemaakte map. Je moet dan wel zoals gezegd de map modden #Tongue

Anyways, (nearly) all your questions require map modding to be succesfull...
Also, you can make units Veteran/Elite by double-clicking on the unit (this opens a new window), and select the veterenacy under Veteran Status (0 = rookie, 1 = veteran, 2 = elite)

DaFool right Bos187 has… You can make copies of entities/bldg. in a zelfgemaakte map. You must or as said the map modden -thats what I got from an online translation. The meaning of zelfgemaakte?
