Back in the Open Map Competition 2 for Tiberian Sun that we organized here in PPM, we had a map that was disqualified because none of the judges could play it. The map from Lazerace had inumerous objects and an ammount of triggers that would make a hell of a living city, but even on The DvD's machine (which was the best from the judges of that edition), which was an AMD 3800+ with 2gb of RAM back in 2004, it ran so slow, lagged so much that it was unplayable. I still wonder if that map would run on Assassin's quad core with 8gb of RAM and only God knows how many video cards he is using on that machine. Of course we expect detailed maps in this contest, but it's always interesting to pay attention to the hardware requirements from your map, since some of the judges may not run it on their machines or it may lag like hell and make your map suck.
In this edition, we had a map that divided opinions in this point of view. It wasn't as critical as Lazerace's entry, but the 9th place London's Broil, from wsted439, could not run on mine and Bhone's machine. Hexetic's machine was quite instable with it and the other judges managed to play it. The map from wsted439 is a living city and I'm sure that if it was submitted into an OMC in 2 or 3 years, it would have scored into the top 3 of the contest. The map is excellent, but who am I to comment something that I cannot run? I could view it on World Builder after disabling almost all graphics and no, my machine doesn't suck. I'm sure it will run Red Alert 3 without problems.
Anyway this is a 3 players free for all urban map with two sides divided by three bridges. In one of the sides, you have a living city, while in the other it is a desert wasteland. One of the players start in the wasteland, while the other two starts in the city. Tiberium is spreaded around the map. The map also has some elite neutral units spreaded around it. Those who played the map were amazed by the details of the city and the amount of dynamism included. For me, that map serves as a good way to benchmark your pc. If it runs, except almost every game to run on it.

I should post the 8th place in about 8 hours. There are at least 5 mappers on the top 8: JBV3737 (3 maps), King Base (2 maps), General Aurum, razorblade001 and Dojynn. So, who's the next victim and how the next map looks like? Stay tuned!
