The great moment has finally arrived, after 5 days displaying results, 5 months and a half since the end of the submission deadline and exactly 8 months after the Open Map Competition 4 being announced to public: The moment to know and play the winning map. As I said in the previous news, none of the maps are featured on Kane's Wrath yet. I was a bit suspicious about a new map in KW called 'Desolation', but I'm sure it has nothing to do with Wind Of Desolation map submittted to the OMC4. I've been kept in the dark regarding what prevented these maps from being included on KW (devs rejected them? legal issues? maps lost on somebody's mailbox? who knows?), so unfortunately, I cannot inform what happened. I wish I could, but I've been quite transparent on what was in my range. Anyway, we would be happy if EA decides to included updated versions of these 'works of art' (using APOC's words) in any future patch of the game.

Anyway, today we would recommend the top 4 maps... or even the top 6 to the devs. In a game where about 90% of the maps are symmetrical, I'd say that their inclusion is very recommended. So, in the map overviews below, I'm including Recommended For Inclusion on Kane's Wrath, even if the second place wasn't originaly sent to EA.

The top 2 maps were created by the two guys who sent the highest amount of maps. King Base, with 6 maps (5 valid) and JBV3737 with 4 valid maps. None of their best maps were their first submitted maps. Practice makes perfect. And congratulations for CNCDEN for holding the best map community from this contest.

Finally, it is time to reveal the 1st place, Wind Of Desolation, from JBV3737. It was the favourite from four out of five judges and second in the remaining judge! This is an amazing and unique achievement in any edition of the Open Map Competition. The map scored exactly 80 points and all judges spotlighted it with ratings above 75 points. The map is a 1 vs 1 redzone looking map. Depending on the side that you can start, you may have easier access to spikes and a reinforcements bay, or an easily defendable base. The map is very detailed, a work of art in all senses. Brillant! And worth playing it!

But the second place, KB Corrupted State from King Base, is also a great map. It is a desertic 4 players map, where two lands are separated by several bridges. The map offers a lot strategical depth and subway system for infantry, with very detailed textures and lighting. It is King Base on his best.

So, a big congratulations to JBV3737: the Tiberium Wars Mapping God!

You can download and view more details about how these maps scored HERE for Wind Of Desolation and HERE for KB Corrupted State. You can view and download the other announced submissions at the OMC4 results page.

Both won a Generals t-shirt, Renegade and Emperor soundtrack, a Red Strike guide, a C&C3 strategy guide. JBV3737, our new mapping God, has got a Red Strike signed by the dev team and a TS Platinum Edition, while King Base gets a RA2 Collectors Edition as well. We'll contact all those who submitted to email the results and contact about prizes. I hope you enjoyed and expect soon the big mappack and possibly a disqualified map pack as well, since so many maps were not accepted or disqualified during the contest and some of them are brillant as well.

I dislike the reinforcement pad on Wind Of Desolation and the placements of the tech buildings are imba. Other than that great looking map.

Will EA be placeing the winning map in a patch?

I'm getting some help from other C&C webmasters to request EA guys to add that in a patch, but there is no guarantees.
