i was playing tfadw eirlyer as gdi and about haf way through the batle units started skiping voices and then all but music died is this known or not and how do i fix it

Theres a faulty .aud file, I had to go through each individual aud file to locate the troublesome one last time. Look for one which displays abnormal properties to that of all the others and fix it.

Did you install patch 1.01 and then 1.02 afterwards? Because if not, then there is the reason. I don't think I added or changed any .aud files in the 1.02 release, so it should cause no issues. 1.01 fixes the sound bug so it should also be installed in conjunction with 1.02 if it hasn't been.
