Caligari Truspace 7.6 for free
For everyone who still seeks a good 3d modeling program, these news are maybe interesting for you.
Recently Microsoft took over Caligari and they now offer Truespace 7.6 for free to support their Virtual Earth service.
Truespace is like google sketchup for free, but supports much more functionality. So it is more comparable with Maya, Cinema4D or 3DSMAX.
All you have to do is sign up on the page and download the software.

I've read that you now have access to many tutorial videos on their page too, which should explain quite fast how to work with this program.
Downloading...
The site is in German, meaning that I can only understand parts of it. at least 'Download' is the same in Deutsch and English.
Looks good so far.
30 minutes to go... QUICK_EDIT

Might be inclined to enter the world of 3d modeling now. Thanks for the heads up, LKO! Good thing I've got more than enough textures stock-piled to support an entire game or five, heh. _________________

Nothing better than 3ds, even for beginners.
These kindergarten modeling studios will just prevent you to use to 3ds later so you'll never enjoy its superiority.
shhhh
In the end it dont matter what program u use, if u get use to 3d modeling then u can take ur knowledge to any other program, u just need to get use to the change of layout then, the principals are the same, just like with video editing and graphic editing tools QUICK_EDIT
I will try this program out. I refuse to steal 3dsmax unlike those who lack a sense of honor.
Altho i havent stolen it, I will say one thing, if they sold it for a fair price they would have more sales and less torrents on peoples hard drives QUICK_EDIT
Well this sucks...I paid $200 for trueSpace 6 and now its free? Though I bet the 3DS still renders wrong, at least last time I checked. _________________ "Don't beg for things; Do it yourself or you'll never get anything." QUICK_EDIT

renders wrong? hah, i dont know how hard YOU fail at it, but have yet to get a single wrong render, and I used max 8 trough 2009. yes, that 4 different versions. _________________ Please, read the signature rules of the forum. QUICK_EDIT
To be accurate, I don't think anyone actually stole a copy of 3DSMax, they didn't walk in to a computer store and get a five finger discount on the disc. They may have infringed copyright to create a duplicate copy, but anyone who had a copy before still has one now. Hence no theft. QUICK_EDIT
I think that's what they mean by 'stealing'. Whether it's a duplicate or taken straight from the shelf, you still didn't buy it. _________________ QUICK_EDIT
