maybe FS has problems if it's write protected, because you once copied it from cd into your TS directory.

Make sure the file-path of your FinalSun is going to the correct directory.

if you have TS/FS installed it reads the registry entry

however TS/FS works without the registry crap too, but then you have to adjust the FinalSun.ini as it can't find the TS path automatically anymore using the registry.
Thus open FinalSun.ini with a simple text editor (e.g. notepad) and adjust the path under
[TS]
Exe=
so it points to your TS folder.

e.g.
[TS]
Exe=C:\Westwood\C&C\Sun.exe

I made sure that it did. still gives the tibsun.mix error msg...

i've tried reinstalling it as well, then finalsun works once, then next time it gives the message. maybe there's some removal of registry entries that needs doing?

It's a known problem with The First Decade; it often messes up the InstallPath entries in the registry. Here's how to fix it:

Go to Start -> Run. Type "Regedit" and run it. Now you should have the registry editor opened in front of you. Select computer, and from there, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Under that, there should be SOFTWARE. Click on that. Look for Westwood, and click there. You should see Tiberian Sun below, and after you've clicked it, select InstallPath. The address you see should be EXACTLY the same as the address you see when you right-click on the sun.exe.
