About using OS SHP 3.36
Subject description: I'm new to custom SHPs so bash away...
First of all, unlike some people in here, I actually took time to read and research on SHPs, needless to say the explanations are even complicated. Anyway, I've fooling around with OS for about a week and I still don't know how exactly to create SHPs.
Do modders edit previous SHPs (guns, color, minute details, etc.) to create their own?
Or do modders create SHPs from scratch? (Painting every pixel...)
I've read on other sites that you don't need to paint every frame. I probably misunderstood this, but is rendering supposed to be a long computer intensive process where it takes a couple frames and tries to make a 3D image of it? I know I'm new to this. I took my time to read on SHPs but so far no tutorials are helping. They all use terminology that they don't even explain. And yes I read the help section in the OS program.
The only thing I'm asking is whether or not anyone knows of even more basic tutorials, cause ModEnc, PPM, and other sites already seem out of my league. I don't want to be limited to cheap .ini as a RA2 fan. Again, bash away _________________

The word mod is comes from modification. When you mod a game, you modify it. And the act of modifying it is to do changes at the existing material.
OS SHP Builder is a great tool to modify SHP files. It also allows you to create SHPs from scratch, but, likewise Photoshop, MS Paint and Paint Shop Pro, it is not recommended create images from scratch with them, specially the ones that uses a lot of frames, since you must be very tallented to create high graphics from scratch with this kind of tool.
The best kind of tool to make graphics from scratch are 3D modeller programs such as 3Dsmax, Cinema 4D, Maya or Blender, since they provide more control over geometry and they emulate appropriate lighting in a much simpler way.
The best thing is to create the shapes with 3D programs and use OS SHP Builder or other image editing program to do the final touches on it. QUICK_EDIT
Thank you for the clarification Banshee. I thought it'd be ridiculous to start from scratch. I like to draw (a lot), but my skills on the comp is limited. Originally I was intrigued when I saw a Sephiroth SHP, so I wanted to learn how to edit other SHPs to make existing characters (Ideas - Solid Snake/ MGS series, Lenneth Valkyrie, FF series, maybe even spongebob for fun). I think I'll fool around with editing for starters.
One more question. If you DO edit a SHP, say GI, and add a longer gun barrel or something, do you have to edit EVERY frame? _________________
