Difficult to say.

Very difficult.
Depends on your idea of good, as well as your taste.

Personally, my idea of good is innovation. Which in turn leads me to Sun Ra's Archestra.

The smart money is on Rush. However, The Cult, the Blue Oyster Cult, Dream Theater and Iron Maiden are right near the top.

I'm agreeing with Rush and The Blue Oyster Cult. I only like a couple IM songs and I completely ignore DT.

DT never worked for me. It doesn't have flavour.

Devin Townsend makes much better progmetal/rock in my honest and humble opinion.

These are in my opinion some of the best bands ever:
Deep purple
Pink floyd
Iron Maiden (No escape from that, you can't say they're bad)
System of a Down (for sheer lulz and the fact there is sense in there too).

Deep purple ftw

@Duchy: Rammstein? Come on... if you actually look at their lyrics, they're total crap. Take "Die Sonne" or "Du Hast"... total wtf man.

The first tow are classic rock and can't really be compared to metallica/soad, they're from a different era and really deserve their own genre. I mean, "Money" and "Smoke on the water" can hardly be compared with "Violent Pornography", "Cigaro" or "BYOB".

@ Nyerguds: yes, I know they lyrics are sometimes bad, but I listen more to it for the music the for the lyrics. For the lyrics, I have SoaD. Crazy lyrics that make sense FTW Laughing

I'm not going to argue about metal here...

I'd probably explode in rage and you guys probably end up with bleeding ears. Very Happy

It's really funny. It seems that most gamers as well as anime fans mostly listen classic rock and mainstream metal. Really weird.

As long as you're not proclaiming Rammstein or Metallica to be the best metalbands ever you're fine.

Black Sabbath is and will always be the best metalband.

Iron Maiden is the band is the first band I ever liked/listened to. Their good stuff is awesome, but they also have a lot of crap.

Dream Theater has a guy with a really annoying American accent. Kamelot is a better power metal band. Its European, probably has a better singer and the lyrics are amazing.

I also dont like constant fast drumming and screaming. Its not music. Ever. #Tongue

Coheed and Cambria.

^_^ reason: Everyone I know either loves them to pieces or has never heard of them. Unfortunately most people haven't heard of them Sad

Best band ever for me is Wolfsheim. Then Rammstein.

Anyone who sais that the lyrics of Rammstein were dumb cannot have understood them. Especially "Sonne". Take the sun (meaning Sonne in german) as metaphor for nuclear weapons and you will see.

Then theres a few of my favorites
The Red Hot Chili Peppers
The Beastie Boys

Although the greatest song of all time belongs to a one hit wonder group, Wild Cherry. That song it "Play that Funky Music White Boy"

Ozzy and greatest do not go together. Ozzy is a ztyping overrated hack. Black Sabbath with DIO is epic but with Ozzy, overrated garbage.

Motorhead > Sabbath any day.

I couldn't pick an specific band from my favorite's list, since all of them have some great songs, but also a lot of uninteresting ones.

-Symphony X.
-Dream Theater.
-Liquid Tension Experiment.
-Iron Maiden.
-Metallica.
-Pantera.

For those that thought Dream Theater was progressive and technical...

...behold, the metalband that was too technical for most metalheads. The ONLY metalband that was really on par with classical music and jass. (Not saying it's the best metalband, but they wrote the most technical, progressive and avant-garde metal ever, logical since they were all music teachers and the lead guitarist is also composer).

Cannibal Corpse, for their sheer intensity. No other band is as ztyping gruesome as them. Plus, their guitar riffs are sooo cool. The bass player is damn cool.

This isn't emo/goth metal. This isn't about people wanting to kill themselves. This is about unstoppable murderers. Us listeners don't want to paint everything black, we want to paint it RED.

Also, Lamb of God is pretty intense. Their songs are about failings of America, War in Iraq, etc. For LoG, it's their guitar riffs and their insanely fast but coordinated drumming.

But I like alot of metal. Black Sabbath, the first ever, was awesome. Metallica, in it's early days, decent, even ...And Justice for All, although the production quailty was shit, the actual music was sweet.

Could someone tell me how to upload some songs? I've got some instrumental pieces (no screaming). I like these bands besause of their music.

What. The SHIT. Is that?

I know music is meant to be personal and everybodies apparently different but I cant understand why anyone, ever, would like that. Its just the personification of a drunken homeless having a seizure. And it certainly doesnt sound composed or technical at all.

Thats more composed. 3 part song called Elizabeth all in one there... Just a shame the guys voice gets really strained, even in the newer albums he sounds like that. #Tongue

Other epics from Kamelot are Karma, The Spell, Human Stain (The list goes on), some of their best individuals IMO. But Epica and The Black Halo together are great progressive albums, both part of the same story.

Omegabolt, the band in my video bases their music more on contemporary free jazz and classical music than the usual base of modern rock and metal, and modern jazz and classical music HAET the normal scales, time signatures, guitar playing techniques and melodies... #Tongue

At NewGuy, I listen a lot of hiphop too. Still just the underground hiphop.

My favourite band. I know every word to every song ever made. I could name them all and quote the first verse and chorus for each one. Razz I'm a little bit too dedicated, I'm getting a tattoo of this soon.

Guns and Roses are pretty good too.

I highly doubt, no I know a metal band is not the greatest band of all time. If you go by records sold, it's the Beatles. If you go by taste, it's whoever your favorite group is. Alot of people would probably say Led Zeppelin is the greatest, however I disagree. I'd have to go with the Rolling Stones.

Disturbed is pretty good, but they are just not as hard core as CC, and I would say LoG is also better than them.

Seriously though, can someone tell me how to upload files. I just don't know how... well, unless they're 5 Megs. I've got songs without screaming, all that is left is the music, pure and awsome. I've also got some songs were you can actually understand the lyrics, make out what they're saying.

Ska-P are one of the best bands ever. They mix ska, punk, Oi! and their lyrics are based on problems such as globalisation, workers solidarity, animal rights, they talk quite openly about the corruption and double standarts in society, in the Catholic church, they fight for legalization of marihuana. They are also very good musicians, despite being punks - all nine of them reherse all day long.

Soulfly - The better part of Sepultura. Anarchists and heavy metal and elements of Balkan, Indian and Reggae elements. Pure win.

The awesome rock and metal titans of all time. The hottest band in the world.

The pioneering punk rock group. They lived (and die) like real punk rockers - booze, drugs, violence, women. No shitty emo stuff that's trying to pass as punk. Also, anarchists.

Megadeth - the way better, TRASH METAL part of Metallica, who are gay. Dave Mustane - alcoholic, drug abuser, etc. - still rocks tons more then those sell-out boys.
