From all the screenies and Vids I've seen it looks like a crappy version of RA someone made after speedballing two dozen kilos of cocaine and heroin then washed it down with some LSD and tainted vodka...

I shall now fall back on my much-used example from RA1.
GASSED CIVILLIANS IN SOVIET BRIEFING 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lt A1br3cht, with all due respect, STFU! You have said that a thousand times. And you know what, are tesla coils all that serious? Time Machines? Giant Ants? They took history with a twist and made those involbed act serious. And besides, i remember they originally wanted to make a world war two game, but when they presented it, the game was turned down, so they changed it to red alert 2. The gas mission was porbably a left over from some Nazi thing.

There is evidence that RA1 was supposed to be NATO vs warsaw pact.b Ut that's history. Tesla coils: Nikola tesla's work with more finesse, he could project electricity but not direct it, giant ants were a joke like the TD funpark missions and the time machine is theiretically possible but involves moving faster than the speed of light.

I used to hold your beliefs, Lt A1, but now I see it to be as serious as this:

The graphics are mere eye candy, the storyline a mere side dish for a far superior gameplay model.

I could seriously care less if the storyline of RA3 was

SHIT BLEW UP AND THEN JAPAN STARTED KILLING RUSSIA AND THE ALLIES AND RUSSIANS KEPT FIGHTING ZOMG.
I could seriously not give a damn if that was the exact and only text of the intro cinematic. Just give me interesting battles, tactical gameplay and keep it fun.

You don't PLAY a videoGAME for a storyline or a SRS BUSINESS art style, or a LOLWTF art style.
You do, however, WATCH a MOVIE for a storyline, a SRS BUSINESS art style, or a LOLWTF art style.

Well actually the FMVs progress the story, which you watch and not interact with.

I suppose what EVA is saying is that multiplayer is so epicly-unexaggeratedly-absorbing despite he and A1br3cht feel the storyline lacks something but it doesnt matter anyway because it has awesome gameplay.

Aww, resorting to petty flaming, Icy? How cute, but does little to further your point. But seeing as you say you play it for the storyline, do you elevate the storyline above the gameplay the videogame offers?

And Omega, I was actually saying that storyline holds absolute ZERO importance to me when put aside the gameplay. And this same logic applies to any game for me.

I can play a game with shitty gameplay as long as the storyline continues to push me forward.

A game without storyline is boring. Play one level, play another. Exit.

It isn't rewarding.

I didn't get a chance to play it. Sad I got it pretty early on, but I can't connect to EA's servers so I couldn't run it...

Yeah, the reason I don't play pac-man is beacause there's no character development.

Not really. They are of the same importance. Of course I wouldn't look for story in a simple puzzle game, but an RTS? I'm not a huge fan of playing online. I'd rather play a great storyline than beat down somebody I don't know online.

Games as you so boldly put them are a medium of expression. Just like books, movies, music, and art. Games on their own are simply all of those mixed together with the added user interaction. So a good story adds to the experience. If the story is missing or just plain sucks, a huge piece of the pie that makes up the game would be missing/suck.

You don't care about the story which is quite sad considering what they add to games.

You guys only play a game for the campaign? Then I suggest getting Call of Duty 4 or so, where SP is based around a story. Seriously, for me campaign is fun for one time, but it's really just a tutorial for the skirmish battles I love...
