This security system is connected with a MS Windows Service called "SecuROM User Access Service".
This module is started automatically when launching a protected application if the user is logged in with Windows administrator rights.
In case users do not have administrator rights we recommend to keep it running.

Pah, SecuROM has been used on most games since way back, even TS used it!

The method they seem to be using now seems to be MUCH more evasive and restrictive than any other one. Limiting installs basically means you ARE renting the game. I have gone through 3 computers this year and I am constantly upgrading. I will most likely go through all three of my installs within a year. And as stated, EA doesn't HAVE to credit you another install. Also installing such intrusive software onto your computer is just wrong. Past uses of DRM software is okay(I am even fine with Valve's method), but the way EA is working now is treating customers like just plain shit.

Also, thanks to SecuROM, Spore is going to become the most yarr'd game ever.

TBH any DRM that is inside the game and doesn't seriously interfere with it is ok, but this... this... Spy.

That's too much, it even needs a utility to uninstall it.

SecuROM is SecuROM. The old version used to mess with taskbar and memory management IIRC.

These are all things people dont need to worry about, really...

Even ignoring the phantom programs installed. There is still the problem with limiting installs which limits the user to its use.

STEAM doesnt use securom but does checks on games if they are played online if I remember correctly.

Checks are done to play basically any game requiring a CD key online, steam just checks the VAC status of an account and the key which is tied to your account if you bought it / reg'd that key.

And pretty much all steam games can be downloaded and played with ease minus online play.
