PPM Voxel Competition Reminder!
Subject description: 24 hours to go!
Hello everyone! Sorry for the recent lack of news from me. I've been overloaded with university exams and also working a lot in my new job, which is being quite fun so far, except for the BEA Workshop (I have yet to see a worse IDE than that: I mean, I prefer to program using nano or vi with gcc which is also a big torture). It's been nice to learn Java, although I'm still making more use of the HTML, CSS, JSP and Javascript squadron. Programmer trainees will always be assigned to do the interface at some point, although I prefer to play with anything related to computer graphics programming.
Anyway, on topic: I'd like to remind everyone that submission deadline for PPM Voxel Competition is in 24 hours. Technically, in midnight GMT. But honestly, I'll accept submissions sent few hours later, before I return from my work, since I won't be able to touch them before that. So, that should give you additional... 20 hours or more, since I'm returning late from work, but do not abuse. And remember that the winners will get prizes like this:
You can submit as many entries as you wish. The Tiberium Wars/Kane's Wrath theme might not have pleased everyone, but we've already got some interesting submissions so far. Do your final touch, and send what you have. For those who didn't start working on one, it is possible to create one high quality voxel in 2 or 3 hours. If you have some free time, you can still start your engines and get working. Check the rules of the contest by clicking in the button below:
Just curious how many people have entered so far? (And maybe submissions, as people could enter more then one.) _________________ MadHQ's Graveyard - Click here!

Well, 16 answered yes in my poll and quite a few have posted that they decided not to afterwards... i'd say there'd be over 10 entrants, but that might be slightly optimistic. QUICK_EDIT
I Pulled out once again. I Have been planning to enter a voxel competition but I can never get around to it. My main problem is that I'm not a great voxeler at all, But I've been saving a technique for some kind of voxel competition. I'll wait till the next one, I Hope that time the theme is better. I need test it ingame (offset, FLH, maybe cameo) and I will send it, maybe I will do another voxel, too. This one is soooooo complicated even it's just vehicle. _________________

I just need to finish the cameos, fix some wrong pixels in the voxel and finally get the screenshots, then I'll submit it. I'm quite happy with the results, as it's my first voxel, but I doubt I'll win anything.
EDIT:
Fixed the wrong voxels, I just need to get the screenshots and the cameo , uploading it tonight, after classes. QUICK_EDIT

I just wanna point out that I am no longer accepting submissions from now on.
@MadHQ: No clue. It depends on the judges. I'll do my best to speed things up, since the winners will also be featured at CommandAndConquer.com. QUICK_EDIT

There wasn't many people submitting voxels. The theme and the strict deadline scared a lot of people, but I didn't had any option on these both things. I still haven't seen the amount of submitters and voxels... I estimate about 10 to 12 voxels...
Anyway, I'm reforming the OMC Manager to use it to calculate scores and get statistics from the contest. Once I'm done with it, and place all data into it, judges will receive the submissions. QUICK_EDIT
Good luck to everyone involved. Yeah the time of the competition was badily placed as this is the time everyone has exams anmd assignments:( QUICK_EDIT

The submissions were not given to the judges yet. I'm still working on a new version of the OMC Manager that should deal with scores and providing a standard report for all judges. It should also generate report for voxels automaticaly.
I know this contest doesn't require so much effort to calculate the results, but I wanna use it on future competitions of the site and therefore, PPM Voxel Competition is the second contest that is being used to test the program (the first that will feature the judge client). The other contest that used it was the Open Map Competition 4, which is why the tool was originally named OMC Manager. I'll probably rename it to PPM Contest Manager. QUICK_EDIT
Don't you have to stick to deadline from EA? Doesn't they had plans for all these contests which they have sponsored? _________________ SHP Artist of Twisted Insurrection: Nod buildings

Update: I've got the client almost fully functional here. I just need to fix a problem between the file it generates and how my manager loads it back. QUICK_EDIT

Update: Manager and Client are fully functional. Now I'm analysing the submissions. Then, I'll setup the contest at PPM Competition Manager, assemble the files to the judges and then, they'll judge much quicker than usual. Why? Because they won't have to make new text files, setup their own documents, copy and paste a bunch of stuff, do maths, etc. The simply have to review each entry, place their scores and comments and the program does everything else. I had some delays yesterday and today, because I've gone out with my girlfriend and some friends yesterday. Today I've visted some other people and I've arrived very tired at home. I'm going to continue to assemble the submissions to get it sent to you guys as soon as possible. QUICK_EDIT

It has been sent to the judges.
More than 25 voxels were sent, but most of them were small variations that changed the texture, the size or the upgrades that the unit had, so I only picked one from most people, except raminator.
This means: 11 entries from 8 people. And at least 4 MARVs. QUICK_EDIT
[Note from Banshee: Please, do not give any hint about what you've done, until all judges finish their reviews. Thanks in advance.]
@Banshee's edit: lol kk, I just thought since the submission date was over I thought it would have been ok.
Also you should just show all the vxls, I'm more curious what people made then the scores. _________________ MadHQ's Graveyard - Click here!

I am curious, too.
4 MARVs, well these are KW symbols (Eradicator would look lame as SHP and Redeemer alikely).
"Nah, MARV can't be so big... Oh 5h1+."
EDIT: Mammoth, Abrams, Humvee, Apocalypse, Anti-Personnal Tank, RA3 Hammer Tank, MARV. - voxels with most variations. _________________

BTW, has somebody made beta mammoth voxel? (I am not asking for name, I just wonder if there is that voxel.)
@Gamingroach: GDI ship is too easy
and Nod ship contains too many turrets. _________________

Of course the GDI ship is easy, the shape is too basic and its nothing more than an oversized ripoff of this
Nod battleship is original _________________

To this point, I've gotten 2 voxels judged. I'll do my best to get them done by Sunday though
Glad to see it's not just me who needs some time
I've gotten 2 1/2 voxels judged, plus a rough idea in what range the score of some of the other voxels will be, but I still need to test some stuff, especially in-game appearance (next time we should make it a requirement that each contestant supplies at least some basic art AND rules code, and/or a good load of screenshots, lack of those negatively affects the time necessary to judge those voxels), Normals and FLHs.
I think people underestimate how difficult and time-consuming it is to judge voxels objectively. Getting a subjective impression is a matter of minutes, but judging them by the rules and guidelines of a contest is a different story. QUICK_EDIT
i can imagine that it's a quite hard job to do a fair judgement on so many voxel. especially since they are not all the same and you have to stay in the bounds of the numbering system, where you can't give all the same amount of points especially if they have quite the same quality.
But i'm confident that the judgment will be fair and finish soon. _________________ SHP Artist of Twisted Insurrection: Nod buildings
