Think quickly:

How do you get rid of a 106 pages topic that bashes the DRM of your product to hell scaring your customers without pissing off the fans?

Install new forums for your product, of course.

Just kidding. EA had plans to change the forums and the C&C.com site before the community summit that happened back in june and now they'll do it. I haven't seen the site yet, but the forum change will certainly come handy. They'll get rid of the awful and slow Jive Software to the new super fast and phpBB imitation JForum. Here's the announcement from APOC:

Quote:
Hey everyone,

This may come as surprise to many of you, though to those of you who remember the community summit reports from back in June, you'll recall we mentioned we've been building a brand new franchise website for Command & Conquer.

This FRIDAY we will be posting a Q&A about the new website, how you will create your new profile, do your best to ensure your forum name, etc. We'll put the info out there and then answer your questions here on the forum so everyone knows what's up, and there are no big surprises (except for the new look!).

The new CommandandConquer.com is the beginning of a new direction for your Command & Conquer online web experience. It will encompass news, media, and community info for all three C&C universes: Red Alert, Tiberium, and Generals (this universe section will be primarily community news focused just to set your expectations for now). The website will also be home to your evolving profile and in-game stats for C&C 3/KW/RA3. So don't worry, you're not going to lose any of your profile stats.

And not to mention, we are also launching a brand new set of forums! The forums will be exactly the same as the new Spore forums, of course themed for C&C. You'll have new layers of functionality and better forums overall. These forums have been received very well in the Spore community and I expect the same for C&C (since we know our current forums haven't exactly been the best). Here is a link to check out SPORE Forums so you know what to expect.

http://forum.spore.com/jforum/forums/list.page

A lot of good things are coming this way for the C&C community, we hope you are excited. I am.

-APOC

That's a way to go, specially for the forums. However, the site change has some negative aspects, as far as my experience with C&C site revamps can say. One of them is that the vast majority, if not all, of the content from the old site gets wasted. In this case, the most important things are tools that EA releases, such as mod SDK, art pack, world builder, etc... which have a great chance to disappear. Let's hope they spare it.

I've been watching that DRM discussion topic very actively, but I haven't posted my opinion there, yet. Is EA going answer to DRM issue after the release of RA3?

Long answer short: No. It will take plummeting sales to do that.

The forums seem a good idea compared to the old ones. I doubt they will forget to port the tools over. But knowing EA...

I guess they will be making Gen 2 now if they are planning to keep it and update on their future forums.

I hope not.I hope they are joking with Gen 2.

The only good thing EA made untill now was TW,other than that,RA3 is a bit too...outside reality.

I don't complain about the game, tought, some of EA's graphics look like crap.

Crap? Ever since SAGE came into play, the games have looked great. If EA did anything right, it was the graphics (that weren't glitched Very Happy).

I hope the adress for the new forums are www.commandandconquer.com/forums. Currently they are: http://forums.ea.com/mboards/category.jspa?sls=2&categoryID=34. Which one is easier to remember to type in? Although it's all marketing, they force you to go through the site to see the latest news/advertising.

Another thing I want it more posts per page. It's like 15 IIRC. Here's is what, 50? That 107 page topic would be like 33 pages. But w/e, I wont check those forums once the game actually comes out Smile

I think gen 2 will be good if they give each side in the game a proper motive for the actions they take. Not like FOR THE CAUSE!!!! lets destroy the world:P If they had legitimate millitaries it would be an awesome game:P

Including generals in a site named CommandAndConquer is degrading to the old command and conquer games (those with a real storyline)

Unfortunatly for you, the games industry doesn't account for user fanatacism for a franchise Laughing

except for the unreal series. They generally do listen to their fan base.

Listen to the fanbase?

Follow the capitalist laws of supply and demand?

Bah-Humbug!

Go and have a look on the Epic Games forums and you'll find a very different story.
They've basically completely dropped all aspects of it it now in favour of Gears, a fair few of the intelligent modders have been banned and there's a generally not very nice attitude from the (forum) staff to the community.

Yeah I went on the forums and spotted that not long after making the post #Tongue

If it's free then well done, if it's pay for they can shove it.

They'd make you pay if it's such a "major" expansion. Not like I mind.

That's what I was thinking. Unless there's an entire games worth of content in there I'm not paying more than a tenner for it. Or maybe if they upgrade the engine to 3.5 as I've got it more for modding than playing.
Frankly anything less than that the community can do themselves.

Better, but still not good enough for me unfortunately.
Interesting that he confirms they'll turn the servers off at some stage, studios using securom seem to have avoided that until now.
