Sparks my interest

As you may know, RA3 has been released globally now. I think it's a very nice game, even with the DRM bullshit (this topic is not about that though).
But I've a problem: compare TW and RA3 on this site. With TW, we had:
-an announcement that the game was available even when it was only released in the US (and the rest of the world had to wait),
-an TW forum even when we only knew the game was being made
-much more TW related news posts
Now compare this to RA3. We had:
-news posts whining about the DRM
That's it! I mean come one, I know RA3 has DRM, but the game ain't bad. On the contrary, I think it's epic. Just a question: is PPM boycotting RA3 because of DRM? Or is it because ppl are so-called busy with other things. And no, I don't ask from Banshee to be here 24/7, because I know he has other stuff atm, but don't we have other news posters who can at least make a news topic that RA3 is released Rolling Eyes

Or is PPM becoming less-C&C orientated and more 4chan like...

Give comments if you want, but don't flame me because I notice this...

Although you can';t really do much with a ra3 forum right now..... there is no map maker, and no mod sdk. so like, everythin we CAN do is play the game, which falls under the category of "Game Chat". I just wants my map maker

its an awsome game and here there is nothing about the development other than the DRM

Yeah, Ra3 is incredible! Has loads of improvements since the beta too.

Someone should setup a mini PPM tournament or something.

Edit; to do it sucsesfully you would have to have a post dedicated to to it and try to work out times that sute people (e.g. Iron Cathedral, me and DaFool? are all British and Dutchy is Dutch and is about one hour ahead so it would work

The c&c3 beta/demo forum was just a creation of excitement, as there hadn't been a cnc (and a real cnc) for like 5 or 6 years, so everyone was all like "omg". But ra3 is like the third game to be released in a row, and was the fourth announced, so like, it kinda lost it's shock value.

If we boycott and they will notice, they will simply make this into an average RTS series. Since fans won't care, they will simply be happy, as they could finally ignore us. Whining isn't an answer either... I guess, we just wait.

Lol, I play games with some1 who lives in Argentina, that's 3 hours diffrence. So 1 hour shouldn't make a problem Wink

It is indeed interesting, there are a lot of people at PPM who love/enjoy RA3. The beta and the official release both exceed Tiberium Wars in quality and plain enjoyability.

If the only reason is because Banshee hates DRM or something, then I think I need to reconsider communities.

But Dutchygamer is right, nothing really positive has been said about Red Alert 3, most of it has been continuous bitching about a feature that most of the posters in the topics will never be effected by.

And to be honest, I liked ore more than tiberium.

I think that that sums it up well.

Once RA3 gets proper modding support and a community who likes it, them we will have something bigger than TW's after effects. They, IMO, will be further and longer felt than TW's.

This is a chiefly Tiberian Sun oriented site, it's logical that less interest would be shown in RA3 than C&C3.

Some of you guys completely miss the point of this topic. It's not about RA3 being good or not (or the whole 'EA is ....' stuff), but of the lack of RA3 news on this forum. As said in my first post: when TW was released, we had dozens of news topics concerning TW, but for RA3 we only had news topics where there where complains on how bad the RA3 DRM was, not even about the game itself. Hell, all I've seen lately is that the PPM voxel competition has got results, but even a small notice that RA3 is released? Forget it... And yes, I know Banshee is busy, but we have other news posters IIRC...

As for me, frankly on the area of recent RTS games, I only care for Dawn of War II. RTS doesn't innovate these days, shit ztyping sucks.

Tiberian Sun added a hostile environment to the RTS vocabulaire, but for the most part RTS games are Dune II with either a Warcraft or a C&C95 sidebar.

I'm not disagreeing with you, I mean, I did all my whining about how EA portrays the RA universe when RA2 came out.

RA3 is a nice game, but it lacks... the magic. The magic that makes TW playable despite being a piece of shit. RA3 however does have a large fun-factor.

But if I want fun, I'd play Super Mario... :/

I guess it's a multitude of factors Dutchy. You can't just pinpoint one thing that did it.
- Banshee's busy, and the rest of the news posters did I-don't-know.
- This is a TS community.
- This is the second C&C game in a row.
- Some don't like EA.
- Some people dislike the DRM.
- Some don't like 'silly' RA.
- A number of people have no interest in modding 3d C&C games.
- A large part of the people here only post in the modding sections of PPM.
- Nothing modifiable has been released.

Playable? Dude, in Tiberium Wars, you got a wall of T1 Tanks, Venoms or Mammoths. GG nub

You could try that in RA3, but keep in mind that the first tanks are T2, and that an advanced base defense like a Tesla Coil can handle 5 tanks on its own without being charged.

Perhaps we have differing definitions of "playability".

Just go to planetcnc.com, decent news site.

I wouldn't expect full news coverage of RA3 at PPM. It's a modding site after all, and there aren't any official modding resources for RA3 yet.

Stupid companies, just release them already.
