Afro Samurai, not really anime ('cause it's not Japenese), but I saw the 5 episodes, and fuckin' loved it. NewGuy, I'd think you'd like it too. It's just fuckin so violent and AWESOME! You know Samuel L. Jackson, right? Well he's in it; the dialouge's great, lots a swearin', and did I mention wicked fighting scenes and violence? Plus, Justice is just fuckin' bad ass, 'nuff said. He knows the secret to power.

I also saw Ghost in a Shell, not bad at all, and saw Aeon Flux (the live action one); damn that chick is hot. It was okay.

If anyone knows anything BETTER than Afro Samurai (more violent, better dialouge (that's english), and cool psychological shit), let me know, post a link.

Neon Genesis Evangelion
+The End of Evangelion (alternative ending)
+Death and Rebirth... not sure what it is... been a while, but its part of it too
+Rebuild of Evangelion (currently only 1.0 has been released)

Samurai X = Rurouni Kenshin #Tongue.

It's a good series, however it starts to decline after Makoto Shishio is defeated.

Don't really like ninja animes, especially that Naru-something. Totally lame, don't get why people like them so much until they make those...err...headplates?

However...Swords and Bows are teh win.

I haven't watched much anime yet. Still a lot that I need to watch (especially the gory cyberpunk animes filled with flying bodyparts).

Hold on tight, here's my list.

Stuff to finish:
FLCL
Lucky Star
Dragonball (never watched the whole uncensored japanese translated version... american version sucks dicks in hell)

Stuff to watch:
Elven Lied (GORE)
Devil Man (titripping- and eating gore lol)
GenoCyber (soooo much gore, even including an Apache attack on a preschool)
Ghost In The Shell
Cowboy Bebop
Trigun
Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann (I heard that anime has some serious OVER 9000 issues)

Honourable mention:
Digimon (BRI-LI-ANT MON-STER-DE-SIGN)

ah wow, someone remembers good o'l guyver, he was kickass Very Happy

ah well if you're looking for gore i'd say you should take a look onto
koichi ohata's works, his cyberpunk/endtime visions and specially the mecha designs are outstanding and awesome, his works have mostly a really scary feelink like "oh well this is worst case scenario, but it can and will get even worse" with it. a few and good ones of them are:
(note, they are VERY graphic and gory.)

M.D.Geist

Genocyber (warning, genocyber counts as REALLY freaking violent...)

Blue Gender (very atmospheric endtime vision)

Other fitting animes:
A D Police (standalone, 3 different episode, playing before the happenings in Bubblegum crisis)

Cybercity Oedo 808

Parasite Dolls (also plays in Mega Tokyo in a different AD Police station , seems to be the early time of the ADP, very brutal too tough)

these are a few i have seen and can say , watch them #Tongue

FLCL somewhere near the end...
Lucky Star was some random episodes so I don't really know...
And DB, I missed a lot of random episodes. For example, I missed the death of Frieza and the infamous "OVER 9000?".

About damn time.

Let me do my list:

Favorites ( Oldies and Currents, all in order of most favored. )
1.) Digimon
2.) Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann
3.) FLCL
4.) Tenchi Muyo!
5.) Neon Genesis (1.0)
6.) Samurai-X
7.) Ghost in The Shell

Hated: (Such a strong word, no?)
Dragonball (Bleh.)
I'll list more when I remember them for this list.

Honorable mention:
1.) What Phobo said for the same reason.
2.) FLCL ( for being so XD worthy. )
3.) Tenchi Muyo! ( For being such a damn classic. Period. )
4.) Ghost in The Shell. ( I don't have to say a damn thing about this one. It deserves the honorable mention. )

for me...

1. Vandread - scifi space age mecha stuff with a large but not overbearing dose of romantic comedy.
2. Ghost In The Shell Stand Alone Complex - hi-tech warfare, with cyborg looking for the meaning of 'being human'.
3. Eureka Seven - also mecha, but focussing more on the concepts of family and human nature.
4. Excel Saga - parodying everything anyone ever thought up!
5. Noir - two assassin ladies looking for the meaning of life... or something. Hard dark action.
6. dothack - A virtual world turns out to be a lot more than a MMORPG when people go comatose in the real world but remain inside the game.
7. Trigun - the perfect balance between wacky western firefights and thrilling drama!

I've seen more, but these are my favourites Smile

Does anyone remember an old space mecha anime that was... probably more disturbed than Neon Genesis Evangelion?

I remember seeing short pieces on Youtube for a couple of children not older than 10 defending their position with rocket launchers from small mechs, and one of the kids runs away and gets gunned down and the tanks blast the whole fortification away.

Gundam? #Tongue Nah...

Your description is what I think fits Gundam 00...I think. It was something like that IIRC. It's not it, though. They used rifles and stuff against huge frakking meches and a GUNDAM appears and...sigh. You know the drill.

Alright, just because this topics about cartoons about space and robots. There was a cartoon which I cannot remember. Basicly it seems like a westernized version of the usual anime. Basicly it had mechs. And some kind of blue, humanoid race which was used as slave force of humans. They revolted. Space and ground battles ensue. It was not in anime style.

Meh.
