Ain't it cute? I was bored so I tried to make this. I thought it turned out allright, I just have no idea how to texture. Also, if I was gonna put this in generals, what poly count should I be shooting for?

What are you using? I can help with Blender...

No idea there.

Also, would you be thinking of converting this to Ra2 anytime soon? (3ds2vxl)

I use anim8or. I have a vague idea how to apply textures (but it is like materials, I don't know how to put the right texture where it's suppose to go). Why would I convert this to ra2? There is one almsot exactly like it in the game now!

I put renedage models in to generals and they worked fine. I think they were 700-800 polys? I may be wrong

**double post**

I think ti would work ingame, but if I get textures, I could probable optimize the model. For example, getting rid of the wheels and just having a textures with wheels instead. But it's proabably another project I'll never get around to doing/finishing Very Happy. I got it to work ingame (or atleast worldbuilder)

you better believe it Wink. I got rid of the wheels and instead just made the threads flat, and then I made the tubes behind the turret with a cylinder with less points, and I was able to reduce the size of the .3ds I exported by 40%.

IF you want a cartoony ra2, look no further

EDIT: I just made a tank destroyer too.

I did the flack track first and I did it from memory. After it came out like it did, I downlaoded voxel viewer and I then absed the models off of the the voxels. I really like how the other two came out though.

if you can't compensate the extremely low quality of your 3d-models with some good texturing, i can only say that these 3d-models are simply bad and useless (ok maybe they can be used for a 3ds2vxl conversion for very small vxl)
So imo before you start creating many more different low-quality 3d-models you should start learning to texture them.

I have no idea about anything 3d in a game. When I convert them to .shp, I don't have to woryy aboyut being efficent or anything like that in terms of poly count. So I can probably make the models higher quality, but I don't know how much shape I can give something before I over do it. I know technology today can handle much larger models, but meh. How many polys should I be shooting at for generals? For tiberium wars? What should the size (file size) of the model be?

Honestly I don't really care, and I don't really plan on using these. I just find it fun to make them.

what format would like it in? .an8, .3ds, anim8or can export in a whole slew of them, or I can give it to you in .w3d.

And I know LKO, whats up with that? If you look in the anim8or screen, you can clearly see that wheel has a face, but if you look at the ingame shot, the face is missing!?!

i don't know anim8or but i assume you used some kind of mirror tool to get the left side wheels on the right side. Due to this the program also switched the normals.

While most of the 3d-modeling programs show in their editing view the polygons from both sides, do games highly depend on the direction of the normals (so they can use backface-culling and other stuff to avoid rendering of invisible stuff).

So either switch the normals of the wheels or create wheels without the mirror tool.

It seems to have fixed the invisibility problem. Godofgamers, here's the tesla tank along with the others if you feel like texturing them (or anyone else). I really like the way they are coming out, they may be far far from realistic, but they have 'style'.

why not put another picture? Soon I will have all the soviet units done. All under 130 polys! (jk). I should probably read a tutorial on texturing, although I like the style they have now... I would also need to get or make textures...

cgtextures.com

You can download a lot of textures for free, only restriction is the 24h quota
(but the restriction is only a problem, if your downloading the really high resolutions).

Sure, why not dutchy. I'll be reliable for models, but so much for textures. What you see (now) is what you'll get (atleast similair quality). Anyone know how to animate in gmax? I got a terrer drone I want to walk.

Whats Hammer? The past 4 pics I posted up were taken from the general's Worldbuilder, so like, it would probably just be easier to code them for generals.
