Subject description: The First Decade Patch 1.03, RA3 Co-op LAN Enabler Utility and Battle Sun Editor!
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

Hey everyone! I've been checking out many C&C sites and, even with most of them being flooded with news from CommandAndConquer.com, we can find a lot of interesting creative solutions to tweak our game experience or make modding easier and, unfortunately, not many of them get attention elsewhere.

The Unofficial The First Decade Patch 1.03

We've already reported this one, as well as some little improvements to it, but it is always worth to mention it. If EALA can't make a proper patch for TFD, the fans make something so amazing that even the devs from EALA applauds it. This fan patch is a combination of many fan tweaks for all TFD games:

* Online play has been added to all of the classic titles
* You also no longer need the disc in the drive to play!
* Updating Red Alert to version 3.03
* Cleaned up video files to free up nearly a gig of hard drive space,
* Extra official Westwood maps from downloadable map packs.
* LAN has fixed for Tiberian Dawn, Red Alert, Tiberian Sun, Red Alert 2, and Yuri’s Revenge
* All manuals added
* Registry entry fixes
* Includes 1.01 and 1.02 fixes.
* 6 players lan game and high resolution for C&C95

Now it has also a site. You don't need the official TFD patches from EA to use this one. Check it out, for more information and download by clicking in the picture below:

Red Alert 3 Co-op LAN Enabler

A fan displeased with EALA's attitude of cutting the feature of playing the coperative campaigns through LAN, without internet connection, decided to hack one of the big files to play the thing through LAN and wrote a little program to switch between the original game and this tweak. I guess he read my mind or the mind of many fans, since I'd love to play RA3 on LAN with my dad. Anyway, here's a screenie:

The only problem is that the AI difficulty is locked on medium, at the moment. According to the author, different difficulty level was causing desyncs, but I hope this issue is sorted soon. Anyway, click in the picture above for download and for important instructions on how to use it.

Battle Sun Editor 2

That's a simple and unexpected editor to tweak the battle.ini and battlefs.ini, allowing you to play your single player maps. Of course you do edit these files by hand with notepad and similar programs, but this program should be more user friendly. Click HERE for more information and download.

And that's it for now. I need to get back to work on my university stuff, which is a very desesperate situation at this moment. I hope you guys enjoy these goodies, specially the TFD patch and co-op LAN play.

In those games the LAN and internet's were screwed up (either taken out as in TD and RA, or mucked up). I've noticed the difference, damn good patch and glad its finally out (about bloody time). As usual the community both finishes the job and does a better one as well.

I was wondering when someone would mention that LAN coop patch. Mighty fine hack.

Those ARE the included patches. The purpose of this "TFD patch 1.03" is purely to combine the tons of available fixes for the people that don't know where to get them all. All of the original creators are credited the patch release notes.

Nathan didn't make any of the included fixes, he just did a great job combining them and writing a script to install them all.

I always thought it was funny that they called it a script.

[Patch enters on right right]
Patch: Would You like to install me?
[User clicks no, patchs exits on left]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Script_language

The purpose of scripts is that there is little or no interaction with the user. They're just executed exactly as scripted.
The TFD 1.03 script runs without any user control. It just identifies which games are installed, runs the necessary patch programs, cleans up whatever patch programs it added (and executed) that are no longer needed, and exits.
