Well I had some free time today, I got sick of studying for my art history exam, so here it is. Its a standard main battle tank based off the Abrams. Ive nearly finished the chassis, just got to do the tracks, and maybe tomorrow the turret.

Is this really the first time you tried 3d-modeling? Wow, the current model is really good and has a nice amount of detail. keep up the good work.

This reminds me my first model - whole armored artillery (tracks were so low they would need very good hydraulics on slopes, something like have those funky American cars (which are shown in GTA San Andreas)).
But I made it less poly and camo (Yuri uses this arty in my mod).

Well done, I really like the look of this tank, but I think US style is different, compare Abrams and T-72 (T-95 has probably different outfit, like it's hull will probably look like hull on Mammoth and turret will be probably combo of external turret and normal unmanned turret, but only Russian Army and Kremlin know the truth).
Abrams:

T-72M4 CZ, modernized, compare the front part of the tank body with front part of the Abrams:

target shooter and target together #Tongue
Actually the model looks rather good and there's this western look about it, I think it might be the raised engine deck, keep it.

If you were aiming to make an Abrams, you came close, but not close enough. That looks like a futuristic model of the Abrams, which is very nice!

Now if you were aiming to make a T-72, you were nearly dead-on.

(I got all this from partyzan. Except for the futuristic model of the Abrams, that was mine.)

nah, it's too western to be a t72, to make it soviet you have to have a frying-pan turret, for a western look go for a more angular look

I had some more time today so I started and nearly finished the turret. Just a few more details then I'll start on the tracks, So far I've been putting them off because it looks so tedious.

To LKO, yea apart from modifying basic geometric forms this is my first attempt at actually making something.

That is really very good for a first real attempt. Exceptional detail. If you (or someone else) can give it a skin of comparable quality to the model, it will be utterly perfect.

I'm amazed that you did this in blender Smile I can never fully understand Blender's UI interface (which is why I stick with 3DS Max). You have my respect for making this as your first attempt in 3D. I'll keep an eye for updates.

That is one deadly tank. At a first glance see:
Main gun (105-125mm ish i guess)
Machinegun (co-axial)
Commander's Machinegun
Rocket pod
Secondary Gun?!?!

rocket pod (obvious) main gun, commander's mg (on top) coaxial (small sticky outy shroud near main gun) and secondary gun next to main gun a little below.

Itr wouldn't have survived the epic hind rush i was just part of in APB... #Tongue

tank armour and gun rears are so thick that to be able to put the bullets in the gun has to be quite far back...

Just had my first attempt at applying a texture, came out well in my opinion. Anyway thanks for all the feedback and Bako you were right it is a sighting lens. I also plan to make more models so if anyone has any requests, as long as its not way too difficult (I still got heaps to lean) Ill give it my best shot. Well not much else to say, here it is.

Probably and yea I find it hard to believe myself, I just watched and read a shit load of tutorials, also i spent a lot of time manipulating basic shapes to see how everything works. So not the first time I tried blender however its the first full model Ive made. I guess yea not my true first attempt at 3D modeling

It looks like you used a quite simple mapping procedure, as the sides are not well textured. Instead of using a plane UVW-Map which projects the texture from top to bottom, you should use a boxed UVW-Map or apply to the sides another UVW-Map which is projected from left to right.

It's still epic in my opinion. If you do what Lin Kuei Ominae suggested, I'll fall over dead with glee. #Tongue

Thanks for the advice but I think I'll leave it as it is cos there's only so much time I can spend on a model before I get bored. So I think I'll move onto my next model and try to do that one better.
