Okay, here's the deal: I want to buy a new pc, but my knowledge about certain parts ain't great. I made a configuration myself, but the dude at my local PC shop said it wasn't that great as it looked. Together with him, we made this:
-Geforce 285
-Intel Quad Core Q9550
-4 GB DDR3 RAM
-650 Watt power supply
-Motherboard which will work with above
This is a basis for what I want to have. The pc will become a gaming rig.
Now I want some more info: what do you guys advice for a good gaming pc. I want to run TW, RA3, Supreme Commander or Fallout 3 on as highly detailed as possible. For TW/RA3 I know for sure the above will be enough, but I ain't sure about Supreme Commander or Fallout 3.

So, is the above good? Is it bad? What do you advice? Money ain't a real problem, as long as it's below 1600 Euros.

Note: I'm posting this on several forums. Do not waste time by telling me that #Tongue

The mentioned components should run everything with no problems at all.

I still have a BFG 8800 GTS and a core2quad Q6600 and it still runs everything full spec no problems at all.

Just make sure you get big enough hard drives to store everything and also grab Vista 64X Ultimate so you can utillise all of those cores you have.

Another thing, Make sure you get a case that provides enough ventilation.

Don't waste your time with a quad. You won't use the cores anyway. It's not quite the time for a quad core. Snag a high end dual core and those are usually cheaper than low end quads. You'll get a hell of a lot more for your buck than having those extra cores not doing much for you.

Trust me. A dual is still your best friend at this point and hey, you can save a little scratch and get a new game to test your badassery.

get rid of ddr 3 ram unless you want core i7. for the 285 go with EVGA as they have great tech support and a killer warranty.

the smaller your monitor, the higher you can run your settings. Also, get a microphone.

And it'd only be like $1200 if Bush hadn't been put in office. #evil

Anyway, my uncle got a quad core and he regrets it because he almost never uses all of them.

In fact, Americans don't realize the fact that Iraq gave them more money. So basicly, thank Bush,it could've been worse.

All I hear is that quad sucks. I dunno if that is true or not. I'm more concerned about the graphics card...

Seriously everything there will last you 3 - 4 years before it starts getting outdated. My hardware has another 2 years before it happens. It being a core2quad Q6600 (not even overclocked) with an ASUS commando MB(which is 2 years old already) 3 GB ram using 4 singular 1GB DDR2 sticks, an NVIDIA GFORCE BFG 8800GTS PCIexpress 312Mb onboard ram, 320GB Hd space using 2 singular 160GB SATA connected HD's and a thermaltake Armor junior case with Vista 64X ultimate for DX10 goodness. All this still runs FC2 on full (maxed out everything) with DX9. But it will get alittle bit jumpy with DX10 which can be fixed with merely adding more ram. Still runs everything else perfectly at this stage(say a full 22" LCD screen (which I also have) with a full screen full of units on cnc3TW with AA X8 is powerful enough to not produce any jumps in performance at all.
