If possible, how do I make a missile/rocket fly straight forward instead of in a giant arc as they do usually? I'm fed up with Rocket Infantry and Bikes shooting rockets that fly as if they were mortar projectiles Confused

afaik only with ROT=1 do projectiles fly in a straight line but are still able to follow a bit the target.

The other way is to set Acceleration on the projectile quite high, so they don't have this ugly slow ascending phase at the beginning which always looks like the missile flies in 2 steps, first ascend and then track down the target.

For some reason, the missiles are always launched upwards. So, with ROT=1, the missile will fly a very, very high arc, and depending on the range of the weapon, the missile might not even hit the target (the warhead does, but the projectile disappears high in air).

The closest results can be achieved with Arcing=yes and ROT=0, but this in turn makes the missile too fast to be realistic.

I agree, I actually just tried this before I wanted to have slightly faster missiles, but increasing acceleration made them go incredibly high and explode about 10ft above their target. Is there a way to stop the missiles from taking such a stupid flight path?

ROT=1 should work as it is the same method which is used on the straight flying plasma cannon of the cyborg command.

If your missiles start in a too steep angle you can also try adding FireAngle= to your unit. With FireAngle=64 the projectiles should start flying horizontal (as described in rules.ini). Default is 50 which explains the steep starting angle.

btw, this might be interesting for you, if you want some different flying missiles.

I'll try these methods right away. Thanks, LKO.

Dude, LKO. You just gave me ideas for RA2. You're the man... I think. XD

I've figured it out. If a projectile has the flag AA= set to "yes", the projectile will fire vertically in all situations. If you remove the flag, or change it to "no", the projectile will fire horizontally, depending on the range of the target (the farther the target is, the higher the projectile will fly before descending on the target).

The best way to make a unit that can engage both Air and ground targets is to give it two different weapons, one for anti-air and the other for anti-ground, NOT a weapon whose projectile can fly at both targets.

This may not always be viable though. That's a good theory but in practice, it can go either way. Then again, I'm speaking more from RA2 experience than Tiberian Sun... Still though, my point remains valid.
