Is it legal?
I dunno if its the right place...
I was wondering these days about the music for my mod:I was thinking at adding music from older CnC games and from RA3 and TW,yet,is it legal?
That's all,I don't wanna have problems... QUICK_EDIT
i think it is legal to use music from TD and RA since they´re freeware...don´t know if Frank has any other copyrights on them
for the others...i don´t know _________________ just a simple logo by bricks @ raminator, on Flickr QUICK_EDIT

From a purely legal point of view, using stuff from one game in any other game isn't legal, but so far EA has never complained about stuff from one C&C game used in any other C&C game. QUICK_EDIT

Have you seen Robot Storm 2.0 videos? They used some music from Emperor:Battle For Dune (1st 3D rts made by Westwood) and from few others... ROTR 1.0 SW has unit speech from RA3, RA2 and few others (at least) for the Russians (Sentinel = RA3 APOC, Tesla Tank = RA3 Tesla Trooper ... both fits better to these ROTR units than for RA3 units, Arm Dealer Truck has RA2 soviet engi sound )
So I think this is rather ignored (and if you use older game music from the same company, I think there isn't big problem, off-course I'm NOT 100% sure). _________________

The moding itself is pretty much illegal. But if you are contained to things under EA's ownership, that part shouldn't be illegal. _________________ DUNK! QUICK_EDIT
I don't think Frank would be the person to email. I'm pretty all companies claim that anything a person creates while working for them belongs to them, including your ideas. They say it's thier intelectual property. (Which I personally think is bullshit and unjust), but EA is probably the real owner of the songs (legally). And, as they;ve presented themselves as pro-modding, I'm sure they wouldn't have a problem with it. _________________ Please, read the signature rules of the forum. QUICK_EDIT

hah. I emailed Bear McCreary about using Battlestar season 3 music in Helios war,
Mr McCreary responded with "did you buy the album? if so, use it for whatever you want. USA and SciFi have no legal copyrights on my music. It's in my contract. I think it's awesome when the regular Joe's find great uses for my music." It's awesome. _________________ "Reality is a lovely place, but I wouldn't want to live there." -Adam Young QUICK_EDIT
Well,Frank is goddamn fast.I received his answer today:
"Hi *personal name classified*!
I don't know the legalities of that as I'm afraid I don't have authority for C&C track permissions, EA controls that. But I do control my solo CDs which are similar in style, so if you own a copy of any of them, you can use a track or two from those if you like as long as you include a credit to my website, the track name, and CD it's from.
Thanks for writing!
Frank Klepacki"
Also, notice that these letter is personal from Frank. This doesn't mean that you guys have the right too.You have to contact Frank by yourself(for his solo album music).
I'll see if there is any way to contact EA.I really want to see what are the laws regarding usage of music from other games.
@Joshy:I ztyping hate techno,and I don't wanna do that with FL.I want rock,I ALMOST got my answer,we 2 shall talk soon.Its a private thing here,guys. QUICK_EDIT

I also don't want to put nothing more electronic than vanilla YR or TS tracks... so some public tracks from the PPM will appear in my mod (several from vefbl4). But rock tracks are on the first place (that's why I put there several Emperor:BFD Harkonnen tracks).
I have there also one track from Hans Zimmer (Crimson Tide or somehow alike, film track, old ROTR 1.0 has this in music list), but I think I will remove it because I am not sure about this one (and I haven't asked SW team either Creator why they removed it)...
Personally I hate everything what is more electronic than songs from Jean Michelle Jarre or StaticX. _________________

What if I want music from other games?
My first mod would have had music from Ace combat, BF1942 and World In conflict, yet I dont want to get in trouble... _________________ I am Zengar Zombolt, The Sword That Cleaves Evil! There is Nothing I can not Cut! QUICK_EDIT

you wont get in trouble.... just do it if you want to. if your going to release it to the public... good luck... most sites are not kind to music copyright.
do what you want because a pirate is free. QUICK_EDIT
Then learn to play the electric guitar, which can easily be used along side FL.
I agree that synth electric guitars are shite, but that doesnt mean FL Studio is weak.
No,the problem is that FL doesn't have a capable electric guitar VSTi,that's it
Yet,I'm not going to do music for CnC.Reasons are personal,I don't wanna talk about it.
I don't wanna say that FL is shit, hell no,its between the few music programs which I can understand(Besides MixCraft and GarageBand).
I hate using samples. Why?They create crap music, that's it.
As about how I'm thinking doing rock music,I'm thinking using my keyboard, and using it smartly,as I have in my possession something too good for poor fellow Joshy.
Still, back to the subject of EA's music,I'll see if I'll be able to contact them tomorrow via email.Let's hope it will be good. QUICK_EDIT

Again, wrong. You don't know about all the VSTi's out there. Do some research, there are great samplers out there.

Very wrong. You obviously know nothing of using samples in your music.

Eh? I have 3 keyboards. You got nothing on 2 of my keyboards, and the other one is some piece of crap.
You can create music in many ways. Consider getting a guitar to make guitar sounds.
Otherwise search for that holy grail of a VST for guitars. QUICK_EDIT
I do google for other ones, but, using Slayer..ugh.No thanks.
Samples,I prefer to use just for drums, that's it.Nothing more.I don't think that using samples for rock is "orthodox".
Regarding learning to play a guitar,I know the basics, yet I don't have the time to learn.
Also, its an 34 year old acoustic guitar, and this crisis hit us XD QUICK_EDIT
