I have less than 2 months to finish my final project and I'm very far from finishing it. The idea is to transform the voxel based models from VXLSE III into 3D models. So, I need an algorithm to produce it (and I have an idea that still need to be finished), I need to code it and have an environment to test it and I need to write a 100 pages text about the whole procedure, showing the results as well. I've been working on this testing environment, and the progress can be checked HERE. VXLSE III will soon have a window (I'l probably call it 'Free View') to preview voxels with OBJ files (other filetypes will go after june) using the new rendering system, which is also the base of OSGIC, as previously announced on april 1st. For this reason, I'm very slow at posting news. Aro seems to be doing a fair job, but sometimes, I need to come up with some community news as well. So, here we go:

Spotlight of the day: CNCNZ's Roundtable #19: Modding Special 2

This time, the roundtable covers modding again. It ranges from the RA3 Mod SDK, old school modding, closed source modding and the best mods. The following people has participated from this edition:

* Banshee - Project Perfect Mod
* Mastermind - Revora/EALA
* Koen - TibEd.net
* Blbpaws - CNC Labs
* Mighty BOB! - CNC Source
* jonwil - CNC Mods
* Smurf Bizkit - Derelict Studios
* Daz - Games Modding
* Golan - Thundermods.net

Spotlight of the Last 2 Weeks:

Nathan, from Command And Patch, released The First Decade Patch 1.03 Revision 4, now using the C&C95 Patch 1.06b from Nyerguds. You can find more about this patch at the video below from the Battlecast Primetime.

Quote:
The new release includes the following changes and additions:

* Nyerguds CNC95 1.06b Revision 1
* Red Alert 2 & Yuri's Revenge XWIS Automatch Fix
* Generals Lost Sheep Mission
* Tiberian Sun Scores-Screen Faction Fix
* Renegade Script Library 3.44
* Yuri's Revenge x64 Optimized gamemd.exe
* Firestorm Video Additions
* Updated TFD Launcher
* Updated Installer

While the patch 1.06b comes with the following features:

Quote:
New features:

* Full language changing is implemented: you can now play the game in English, German, French and Spanish, and even get translated mission briefing text and ingame voices
* The original unused Nod-specific map and score screen music is added to the game
* The Red Alert 1 snow theater has been added for mission making
* The unique missions from the Playstation and Nintendo 64 versions of C&C are added to the game, and the Playstation's hidden 'PATSUX' mission even has its upgraded Orcas
* No-CD controls are added to the conquer.ini configuration file, so you don't have to mess around with shortcuts with command line parameters anymore
* For the people who are tired of starting each mission with the Act On Instinct theme, several music options allow you to change the way the game chooses the starting theme
* Loading Funpark (dinosaur) campaign savegames no longer gives problems when continuing to the next mission
* The game no longer crashes when ran in a no-cd setup without added music

Modding Community News:

-> YR Argentina has a new webmaster, Alucard, who is accepting voxel submissions to keep updating the site, after some years of hiatus.

-> CnCRA3.Net is in need of someone interested on modding RA3 to write articles for it. If you wanna support a modding site dedicated for Red Alert 3, take a look at this topic and contact The Best Guest.

-> CnCMods.Net has more random goodies for RA3 modders. They have dummy art for world builder and a tool that generates XML for the stock MP maps. The 4-rows-per-build-page UI was also updated to fix a quick bug.

-> CnC Spain has the tank modelling tutorial from killakanz translated to spanish, with killa's authorization, of course. Read it HERE.

CnC Spain tienes un tutorial de modelaje de tanques de Killakanz traducido para español, con autorización de killa, claro. Leer el tutorial AQUÍ.

-> Tiberian Dawn Redux modification for Generals has some very nice ingame screenshots of the newly created art for the mod, with the use of texture shaders 2.0.

-> Check CnC Generals World for new screenshots in The Red Alert Mod, which should bring RA1 into RA3.

-> A late happy birthday to Tiberian Dawn, a total conversion for C&C3 that will bring the universe of the first C&C to the game. They have a big blog with news and renders, screenshots, concepts and much more.

-> Hogo's Rules 1.0 Alpha has been released. This is a ballance mod for Red Alert 3 from the perspective of Hogo, who has modded several old school C&C games as well.

Other news:

-> EA has released a new episode of Battlecast Primetime, with the Battlecast 5, Community News from APOC (which is quite good this time) and the Main Event. Watch the video below:

-> Planet CnC has an article called Post-Mortem: Tiberium Wars which says everything I wanted to say on what has failed or could be better on Tiberium Wars. It deserves a read, if you haven't done it yet. And here's a snippet:

Quote:
Tiberian Sun, for all its gameplay, musical or story failings, managed to create one of the most compelling visions of a ruined Earth that I've ever seen in a videogame. The post-apocalyptic theme was well-crafted, and in my mind the strongest part of the product. Though in many other ways I feel the Red Alert 2 that succeeded it was the better game, Tiberian Sun easily managed to capture my imagination more so than any other Command & Conquer title, be it Red Alert 2, Generals or whatever.

And that's all for now. I need to get working on this final project or my graduation party will get postponed for another 6 months.
