After 2 and a half years working on it, zzattack has released the C&C Map Renderer. This is a tool that will create minimaps from your maps (inside mix files or not), by rendering the whole level, and reducing it to fit in the minimap. The quality of the minimap generated by this program is much better than the ones from Westwood and Final Alert 2. Here's a sample with Bay Of Pigs:

Westwood's minimap:

C&C Maps Renderer version:

Note that it consider details like cliffs and units, among other things when generating the minimap, because it renders the map. According to the author, voxels are not rendered with the version 0.93 of the program.

Anyway, head to C&C Maps Sourceforge Project Page to download it and discuss it at CnC Editing Tools forum.

Great program. Decided to try one of my maps and it crashed. After a few seconds I realized it was a map created using Terrain Expansion.
