It was a great spawning ground for mods, the game itself is meh but the stuff that's been done with it, TD:Redux, Vietnam Glory Obscured, Shockwave, Rise of the Reds, Blitz (PUBLIC BETA SOON BOYS, ROLL THE TANKS!!!) redeem it.
On the topic of C&C4 we'll end up with another 3 months too late SDK, patch spupport for a max of 8-10 months, maybe 12 if we're lucky. _________________ Yes, work on MV continues. It is not forgotten. QUICK_EDIT
RA3: Severe historical inaccuracy. Einstein had nothing to do with nukes, ergo removing him does not erase nukes out of existence any more than if it were Darwin, Fleming or Elvis who got erased instead. I mean yeah Red Alert is all about alternate history but some stuff really got contorted.
...
besides we all know futuretech would've invented the nukes anyway even if you systematically erase the scientists who were actually responsible
If you played RA1's Allied campaign, you would know Einstein was the reason why Soviets had nukes, heck, he was the reason why anyone had nukes. (Different from what happened in real life) And by the time RA3 takes place, Nukes are obsolete anyways.
Von Esling said the Soviets had developed "an atomic bomb". That was it. There was no explicit mention of Einstein (plus, Einstein was a general/special relativity guy, not a nuclear physicist to begin with). Based on historical information I can only guess the commies did it the same way they did in real life, with their own domestic nuclear program.
Where lies the difference between RA1 and real life? Germany. The commies in RA1 would logically have gotten their nuclear program up and running faster because there were no pesky Nazis to hamper them (recall that there was no WWII, and that RA1's "Great WWII" occurs around the 1950s, so the time between 1939 ans 1945 wasn't spent fighting Nazis but rather achieving technological breakthroughs, hence all the crazy stuff in RA1) _________________

That's the basic idea, in the 30s Russia was charging forwards, Stalin/volgagrad was a shining example of modern engineering. The reds were making rapid progress. Then came WWII and it lost it's vigour. Afterwards they still made progress, but the pace was gone, they lagged behind the of the western world. _________________ Yes, work on MV continues. EA's UK PR team just tweeted an announcement that Command & Conquer 4 is now in development, though the linked press release doesn't seem to exist yet. This seems to us like the result of an itchy trigger (or tweeter) finger. With recent online surveys asking what people would like to see in the next Command & Conquer, we were expecting an announcement sooner rather than later. Still, this is a little earlier than we -- and EA, seemingly -- had expected the announcement to come. We'll update you with more information on the game once the press release becomes available.
That's what it said in an e-mail I just got! Here's the rest of it:

It was on August 31, 1995 when the Command & Conquer franchise was introduced to the world with Tiberian Dawn and propelled the real-time-strategy genre in to the hearts of each and every one of YOU. Now, Command & Conquer fans, after 14 years, and 18 games across the Red Alert, Generals, and Tiberian universe, someone very near and dear to the heart of the C&C franchise will soon have a message for you, to be communicated world-wide in "early July". Make sure to bookmark CommandandConquer.com, as this person will drop his message at just the right time.
I know someone already posted about the Twitter message, and that C&C4 undoubtedly is going to be announced very soon, I'm just pouring more fuel in the "rumor" mill But I think it's more than rumors by now.
Guys, it's coming...Looks like Joe Kucan might announce C&C4 next week...
Also, C&C4 should be announced this week or the coming one. (Likely this one)
And I hear BCPT will be available on the 24th of July (in 2 weeks!)...Early, aren't they?
EDIT: The twitter link leads to http://ea.gamespress.com/release.asp?i=1134
This is the next EA press release, which isn't up yet as of now...The last one (1133) was posted on the 7th of July, and 1132 and 1131 were posted on July 8th on the EA press release website (odd...).
Anyways, looks like there's a chance of the game being announced before this weekend! QUICK_EDIT

What? RPG in C&C? Please leave that stuff to Warcraft...But then again, I can't even play Red Alert 3 without the game crashing after a game or so, due to my video card, so I don't have to worry about anything...
What I do like to see though, is a huge RTS (like Supreme Commander qua size), and that you can switch between being a commander, and a soldier / tank / whatever you want. Include a map editor or something ingame, so you can create your own missions very easily. Something that allows you to create something like a huge FPS campaign and a huge RTS campaign mixed together. Call of Duty and Command & Conquer in one game.
It would be hard to balance online, but hey, I don't care about online, as that only shows who has the best build order...And I hate that, I play for fun, not to learn a build order and do every game the same thing... _________________ ☭☭☭☭☭☭☭☭☭☭

Udo Kier. I can feel it. Or Joe. He's ok too.
I am actually hoping for one of the original WestWood employees saying: "Oh yeah, you know... Red Alert 2, Red Alert 3 and Tiberian Wars are actually a dream of Slavic when he did too much Eyecandy and was totally spacing out man, far out... So we were going to get back at Tiberian Twilight, and the REAL Red Alert 2!" QUICK_EDIT

LOLWUT! In TW: we don't use walkers because they are expensive blabla. And what do I see: 5 out of 7 units are walkers...
Besides that, it looks awesome QUICK_EDIT
However, the biggest surprise on the vehicular end would be what we call the Crawler, our class-specific, all-in-one mobile base that doubles as a powerful frontline combat unit. One of our goals with Command & Conquer 4 was to come up with a more flexible, streamlined approach to base building, and the Crawler was the end result of that investigation. Rather than construct a series of structures to build and modify your army--as you would have in previous C&C titles--everything you can create, be it unit, structure, power, or upgrade, comes from your Crawler.
Well, this is certainly a huge kick in the face C&C4 has no base building whatsoever!

I want a hand count, how many of you guys kept trying to say "IT'S NOT C&C4 HURRRRRR", despite all that had been shown? Seriously.
But as for the images themselves, and the units shown... what in the hell... I can't form an opinion... I really can't... I don't know if I love it or hate it... need moar screenies. _________________

So...We get no base building and a RPG like profile which, undoubtly, will put a guy who just played his first game and only has basic units versus a guy who has unlocked everything...
To 'shortern the learnign curve'? Eh, hello, learning? I play my games for fun, I don't have to learn, I don't need 2 units to start out with, so that every strategy is the same...And how can that be balanced anyway?
Luckily I will never buy the game, but I also won't acquire it seeing as my computer probably can't run it.
So...We get no base building and a RPG like profile which, undoubtly, will put a guy who just played his first game and only has basic units versus a guy who has unlocked everything...
I guess this is solved by creating servers/games of "2v2 N00BZ only!" _________________

Too bad people will join anyway. If EA was smart, they would make certain options for games like 'only basic units allowed' or 'only basic units plus the first 3 that you unlock allowed' etc. But no...
And, that picture, that is just a C&C3 mod, how can they say that's a new game? I mean, I see a modified mantis, an elephant, some big stupid blocks that look like a MARV, flat Wolverine's, nothing that an average for C&C3 couldn't contain.
i find those pictures more comfortable than those at the time when they announced TW....
altough i'm not so keen on no bases and crawlers....
ah i see cyborgs, i sense cabal
As a nice side effect, since C&C4 requires players to be online all the time in order to prevent cheating, we'll be shipping without any form of DRM.
RA1 was more of a TD mod than that pic is a mod of C&C 3.
That being said I'm not really interested in C&C 4 right now atm. I've drifted away from the C&C scene since KW and this new announcement hasn't really changed that. I don't like the Crawler concept as it sounds like putting all your eggs into 1 basket plus it's making the game even less and less like a proper RTS by eliminating base building. _________________

I agree with the bottom part, Tiberium Wars was my last sort of good C&C game although I've bought Kane's Wrath too. Unfortunately my computer crashes for some straneg reason when playing those 2, although before it could play them fine. _________________ ☭☭☭☭☭☭☭☭☭☭

uhm in the article stands you actually have structures and base building in cnc 4 so i believe the "crawler" is sorta mobile mcv, a bit like the commander unit in supreme commander.... _________________ Hydraw Art on Facebook QUICK_EDIT

I like to be negative. Plus, I only said things that the article said. And some general assumptions like that EA will not include an option like 'only basic units avaible'. And you know that's true. _________________ ☭☭☭☭☭☭☭☭☭☭

It's not a C&C 3 mod, period.
Yes from the looks of it it's the same art department because the model quality on the GDI stuff looks so C&C 3 like that it could almost be Carnius doing another media update for Essence, but the terrain and shaders are different. Bloom-wise it's more like RA3 than C&C 3 for example.
black hand heads gone all weird... and Nod has a horton bomber from the looks of the site background... also, red contacts.
It's funny really... between C&C 3 and TS are 17 years and it was a total overhaul, yet between C&C 3 and C&C 4 are 15 years and there's still traces of the C&C 3 design style and aesthetics. _________________
that puny thing at the back better not be the crawler. That SUCKS. Now the big ruin on the left, that's more like it! _________________ Yes, work on MV continues. It is not forgotten. QUICK_EDIT
unlike the cnc 3 concepts that showed at first i really love the twist in these ones, those "black hand" i suppose are cyborgs....i really hope it goes on with Legion rising.
Those units are nice but a bit weird to see a mammoth mk 2 design in there... _________________ Hydraw Art on Facebook QUICK_EDIT
