OptimusLeech v1.0

This tool removes the protection from a MIX file that has been protected with either the XRML LeechKiller or the MixProtector.
It does NOT recover the filenames of the entries (that's not possible unless you got years for a bruteforce attack, and if you do, code that yourself).

Requires the .NET Framework 2.0 to run.
Enjoy.

Because with this tool, pd controls the media and thus the mind.

It's media, and not specific to either TS or RA2.

Like the newbies know how to use this program.

I suppose this is released to look under the hood of dead mods whose creators have left us long ago?

I'm still unsure as to why anyone cares if people open mods. If they try to use the assets, they're banished. If they use them in private, they keep them in private.

Simple as that, honestly.

So? If no one in the community plays the mod because it's full of ripped assets, then it's essentially the same as a private mod.

Not to mention the shitstorm iloo is getting.

Yeah, "no one". Like we could prevent people from playing any mod that they have access to by saying - "this mod uses ripped assets, don't play it!".

We know what they're doing, so long as they publish. If they don't publish, who gives a fig?

I didn't say we could stop people. I said people wouldn't play it. Especially with the smear tactics we've used against iloo and Javier.

They've ripped and they can't escape us.

@Orac: Is that a Wesnoth unit? Also; thanks for the support?

A barrage of people saying "this mod is full of ripped assets" isn't going to stop people from playing a mod though, which I believe was Speeder's point.

Also doesn't stop people from ppm totally tearing it apart and attacking it, as seen in Javier/Iloo's mod Razz

heh i know . . but it dosent matter, i just couldnt be fucked to write a whole sentence out about why i think this tool is shit.

But yah its shit, people block access to their mixes for a reason to prevent what we have all seen r'tards like iloo, and javier from doing.

Nuff said, but if people like someone stealing their assets then whatever its their choice to allow them to do that, but either way alot of people disagree with this tool and im sure they will be seeking out alternative methods to stop r'tards stealing their assets.

But that also wont stop people from playing it, people can flame and bash something all they want, but it's never going to stop people from playing a mod crammed full of ripped assets altogether.

Arogree!

I mean, if people want to leave their MIX files open, they do it. If they don't, the obviously don't want people inside. It's like giving thieves a tool to break in.

Plus, if the mod appeared to be good, although full of ripped assets, I will still play it.

This kind of thing should only be for established memberas (maybe those approved by a mod?) and should have it's own little forum accessible only to those people. That way we can look back at old mods and see how stuff was done, but we can stop the idiots like javier and iloo pulling the guts out of our work and runnning in circles wearing them as a hat.

@Lt Albrecht: Hmm, good idea Albrecht, though some n00bs might protest about it...

Anyways, a warning to n00bs and potential mod rippers who are reading this post - If you've downloaded the utility, use it with caution. If you were to rip assets from a mod, use them for PRIVATE USE ONLY! If you distribute a mod with the ripped assets, you can be sure as shit be hunted down by every legit modding communities around the net and ztyped to death for it. We modders DON'T GIVE A F**K TO MOD RIPPERS. Remember, "DON'T MESS WITH US, BITCHES!" You've been warned. (Its better to be legit you know.)

Meh, I had to give them a warning. Now let's see if they use it properly.

Discussions like this always amuse me. Everyone is happy to circumvent the protection that WW/EA put on the game assets to stop people messing with them and learning from them and yet is up in arms if tools are made available to do the same for their work. This is no different than when Olaf released XCC mixer that was able to open the encrypted mix files TS and RA2 use, its just a tool to open a different variant of the mix file container and should be seen as such.

Yeah but we paid WW/EA money for use of those files and they have yet to protest at people modding. Seeings as artwork falls under intellectual property I think it should be secured. Nobody has any right to WW's ini code, but they sure as hell have a right to the artwork they made...

Oh for ztype's sake. Why is it always about stealing with you people. That's maybe 1 in 15 mods that get announced here that have ripped assets that are actually public. The rest are perfectly good mods that are full of public or half-assed stuff.

The ratio of good work to stolen is really low. This is a mountain out of molehills. Stolen art isn't going to suddenly spring up everywhere because someone can look into a MIX file. Most people STILL don't use MIX protection so this will work on a handful of mods... maybe more now because you're all so ztyping paranoid!

Sheesh. You people overreact like dried up housewives during their menstrual cycles.

Because 95% of the time, that's what tutorials and tools such as this one are used for.

uh, NO. Incorrect! Nothing will magically happen because seven more people can look into a MIX file. Whoopdeefuckingshit!

This community worked FINE before any 'mix protection' came along and it should still be fine but everyone is so paranoid about three people who come in and make a mockery of things.

Seriously. Go look at the Blacklist. How many people are there? Ten? Twelve? Then compare that to EVERYONE else who doesn't steal anything and then realize how stupid the whole thing really is.

I'd be more inclined to agree if this was happening constantly but the fact of the matter is that it's not. It's once and a while and only with a few of the same people. We haven't had anyone new release a ripfest mod in quite some time actually.
