People of PPM! Rejoice! I've got a question for you all!

I know that voxels may be made by copying blueprints. I know that we may base voxels / SHP's of existing artwork. But is it allowed to take a screen of, for example, Dawn of War, cut out the unit / building you want, and paste that in SHP Builder? It takes less then a minute, and this way I enjoyed ra2killer's GLA like buildings of his mod (is it his mod actually?). I'm not saying I'm going to print screen his buildings, paste it in Paint Shop Pro, and then copy it in SHP Builder, as that totally doesn't require work, while other units / buildings probably need to be edited before they look good, but is this allowed? Or is this considered ripping or any other form of the dark arts?

als I doubt that this is ok... our not actually making it yourself but simply taking pics... its sorta like asking if taking a pic of mona lisa... If you want something that adly, just simply ask the creator, you could be suprised what they say... I asked a guy that made my favorite mod for just one explosion anim and he ends up telling me everything is public assets.

Yes, the problem is, ra2killer doesn't react for months, so I asked Longwall if he could contact ra2killer n a Chinese forum or something, but Longwall also hasn't reacted for months.

However, that was only an example. Can I take pictures of another game (like C&C3 or DoW or something) and paste those in SHP Builder and thus use them?

All he's essentially doing is ripping assets from another game, ala the Civ3 conversions on here.

if someone else has done it too, so what? as long as it's your work, and you're screenshotting the actual game, then it should be fine.

Yes, but come to think of it, then you could also take pictures of a YR mod and use those, and that is considered ripping.

But I forgot the Civ3 conversions, that was approved here too, so I guess it's fine then.

i got also a question :

if i want to have TS cliffs and tiles in RA2 and i know how to do it but i got some official mods with not protected mixses where all this is done ...
is it ripped if i use the resized TS things of those mods ?

i think its stupid to make the same files that you have alredy there ...
