Well, lately I've been on a quest to improve my rendering and lighting skills. So, I produced a short animation to show what I've done. The animation took 1 hour to render.. Neutral

Here's the AVI file:

(This AVI is such poor quality in comparison to what it was. I couldn't find good compression)

I also did a Quicktime preview of it, and the quality is 20 times better than the AVI, but the file is 55MB big.

So enjoy, and tell me what you think.

that's pretty fantastic looking tbh... i found it intriguing to see the way the camera moved. the blur effect was also nice but i'm also not sure how much of that is standard in the way things are rendered in 3Ds max, (or whatever program you used). i found that to be fun to watch over and over again xD nice job joshy make sommore

Sweet wooden blocks Laughing I agree with Mason, the landscape was well rendered and the camera movement was funky. Though it could be 2x slower Confused

It's a type of video compression (Like DivX)

And thanks everyone. Very Happy

@Sindri - I would render the thorn monster, but the up close model is ugly. The concept may look good, but I only did a base mesh and did the shading and texturing in PS.

I believe its an open source implementation of the same codec as DivX infact IIRC.

There's only one way to fix that... Razz

But on a more serious note, does this interest in rendering videos mean TI will have FMV's?

I don't know what Joshy has planned, but i've started already working on a FMV for TI. Very Happy

no, i just started placing all the Units/Buildings in one scene and did a simple camera move around the scene in a ego-shooter perspective showing a heavy tank coming out of the warfactory and 2 banshees taking off.
The final version will include all Nod buildings and a battle in front of a Nod base.

But this is going offtopic. So back to Joshy.
The anim is pretty cool. I really like the blur effect when the camera moves.
Do you figured out how to create a sharp focus on a certain object and unsharp all others which aren't in the focus? 3d-renders are always sharp, regardless how far or near an object is placed to the camera. With such an effect the animation should be really great.

Yep I sure did. Razz However, I'm still adjusting it to get the correct depth of field.

Laughing Alright!

and about the FMV's, I'm unsure. They'd be pretty simple to do.

Edit: I made this today:

Well, here's another render. I'm getting the phsyics under my belt. It was taking a bit long to render (Would have taken an hour, like the other) so I quit at frame 30.

(The video is about 1 second long and is pretty high resolution) (Also, there is a specularity problem on the red cube. I can't be bothered to fix it)

Enjoy!

Nice, now start learning particles and combine it with your new physics knowledge, to make really good animations.

I am actually improving my particle knowledge right now! Very Happy Let's see.. I've got the lighting/rendering down, I understand how to do physics, and I'm learning particles. I need to learn to properly animate bipeds and get the desired effects I want in a cinematic. Smile

Yeah, those first few have a mass of like 1 pound. Hence why they just took off. Laughing
