Make bigger terrain images otherwise its going to look very repetitive(an 8x8 cell image should do it).
I forget how to add terrain to a .tem right now

You need either the XCC TMP Editor or TMP Builder programs first before you replace terrain tiles.

open xcc temp editor
open the tile you want to replace copy the new terrain image with photoshop/whatever (ctrl+a, ctrl+c)
rightclick on the tile description on the left
paste complete
save it

i don´t think that you even need to write the entries under general...

another problem could be that *lat.tem/lun/whatever tells the game that it´s a tile with 2 terrain types (grass-sand)
name your tiles vlear and ulear and try again #Tongue

Final Alert Data? no,no,no, it's in the game .ini 's. If you keep trying you'll get to work.

You need to photoshop the edges. Obviously.

Yes. In my experience doing the transitions from one terrain type to another is 90% of the work.

Heres what I do: Open both tiles you want to transition in an image editor.
Put each in a different layer. Then using the various tools make a (smooth or rough, whatever you plan) transition in transparency. Use the original terrain transitions as a guide to a general shape, for example which edges are matching which terrain type.

Those slopes... they'll be quite a bother to do.
I can't help you out here, my process is rather long and complicated (perhaps not the most efficient either).

(Aro! How's that tutorial going?)

I will get around to it eventually. I have templates and stuff for creating the transitions and slopes in photoshop, I've just been beyond busy recently, I haven't even had enough time to post a weekly roundup.

take some time and create yourself templates in 3dsmax...takes maybe 10 hours...but once done you get your basic clear and lat files ingame in about 10 minutes...

Also, when it comes to making entirely new terrain I highly recommend creating yourself an entirely new palette (unless the terrain is remarkably similar to the RA2 terrain), any decent terrain artist will tell you that. Also, I'm guessing you're planning on replacing the actual terrain, you're going to need some experience in fixing terrain edges (preferably done in Photoshop or 3DSMAX). You'll get there eventually, it just requires a lot of patience and a basic knowledge of what it is you're doing. Also remember to memorize the LAT filenames and additional randomization tiles (a-h).

No, the limit is 8 tiles as far as I know, Droke claims you can go all the way up to 'z', but I've tested it, it doesn't work.
