Blue Asbestos Poisoning
Last night me and a lot of my mates decided to go and check out an abandoned mansion we'd heard so much about, which I was looking forward to cause as you know I love abandoned places. Anyway, when we got in (after climbing fuckloads of stairs and ladders), we had a look around, there were a lot of nasty things and smells in there (Including bleach, nitrogen, asbestos etc.). So after a look around we decide to chill for a bit in the attic (which is were the asbestos was mainly lurking but we didn't know). Later on we all went looking around and exploring this huge mansion. We came to a cellar and we wanted to check it out; So me and some of the group went downstairs to have a look around, there was this whole in the wall which even made me heave... It was crawling with ztyping millipedes, tons of spiders and I could swear there was even scorpions in there. Among that shit was another smell which was just plain gas I think. We was in the cellar which has no escape other than the way in, so we checked out the hole in the wall where the leak was coming from, but unluckily for us we heard a voice shouting "Oi! Get from down there now!". At thirst, I thought it was just one of my mates or someone else taking the piss, but it turned out to be a group of five police officers. As we had nowhere else to go we just went upstairs to face the music. Among those police officers there was a man who was looking after the wrecked mansion (I think, he never really explained who he was to us). The man explained to us about the leaking chemicals and why the place was abandoned. He said every single one of us is now harboring blue asbestos, including him and the police officers (which was probably a guilt trip attempt cause they weren't even on the same level as the blue asbestos leak). After his long story about the mansion and the asbestos leakage, we got details taken down, searched and threatened with a court case (nothing new really, this involvement with the law doesn't bother me) and in the end, they let us go because they said the fact that we'd inhaled blue asbestos is a bad enough punishment.
Overall, I have inhaled some kind of deadly chemicals in return for my curiosity and stupidity. Me and all of my mates that went there are going to go get ourselves checked at the doctors soon. For now this means you wont be seeing a lot from me. I'll let you know how things go. QUICK_EDIT
Link works fine for me. Oh, and I am a heavy smoker.

The Risks and Dangers Associated with Asbestos
All forms of asbestos are dangerous and can cause fatal illnesses to which there is no cure, however, blue and brown asbestos products are known to be more dangerous than white asbestos.
Entry into the body is through inhalation into lower parts of the lung and can lay there for years, or can even work their way into the lining of the lung. Any fibres that may be ingested into the body will be removed naturally by the body; moreover, entry via absorption through the skin is not possible.
Asbestos is made up of tiny fibres that can only be seen under a microscope, which can penetrate deep into the lung and stay there causing respiratory disease or some types of cancer. The principal asbestos related diseases are that of: asbestosis (fibrosis) scarring of the lungs; mesothelioma - a cancer of the inner lining of the chest wall or abdominal cavity; lung cancer; and diffuse pleural thickening - a non-malignant disease in which the lining of the lung (pleura) becomes scarred.
Present statistics from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) indicate that there are 3500 asbestos related diseases in the United Kingdom per year which is expected to increase dramatically by the end of the decade. This is mainly attributable to the fact that there is usually a substantial delay between the first exposures of asbestos to the first symptoms of any asbestos related disease, varying from between 10 to 60 years.
Asbestos is safe if left undisturbed, nevertheless, where any project involving asbestos and the removal of asbestos is undertaken, complete awareness and precise controls are required at all times throughout the project, and work should be carried out under the assumption that asbestos will be present unless established otherwise.
That crap is nasty, like I said on msn dude I really hope you turn out to be clear.
I've been dragged around a few abbandoned buildings with a friend, the last time we had to wear masks incase the building had Asbestos in it. _________________

Well, good luck man, hope it turns alright. QUICK_EDIT
Ouch. I thought that it takes months or years even of inhaling asbestos to actually have any effect on you. I guess blue asbestos is different I wonder if this taught you anything _________________
Yeah, it may not be effective on the battlefield. But at least those evildoers will suffer the pain of asbestos poisoning (and whatever cancer they might get from the poisoning) for 40 painful years or longer _________________ The future belongs to The Forgotten!
Read the damned page to find out why it's in an old building. And if you code an Asbesdos-based weapon YOU ARE AN IDIOT. _________________ Yes, work on MV continues. It is not forgotten. QUICK_EDIT
I went to the hospital earlier today to get myself checked out (A couple of my friends went to the hospital too but I'm not sure of their results yet), my results where good for this current age but not so great for my older years. According to the doctor at the hospital, I haven't inhaled enough for it to do any real damage to me for the next few years, he also said that I'm lucky I didn't stay there overnight otherwise I would of regretted it for sure. The news for me is that I'm going to be fine until I reach the age of approximately 40 then I'll start to feel some effects but it wasn't stated what effects exactly, a lung cancer called 'mesothelioma' (covers the lungs and other internal organs of the body with a lining that tightens up the arteries, symptoms usually include breathing problems and chest pains) was brought up as a possibility, but hopefully I'll never hear of it again. As I would of had to of been exposed to the asbestos for approximately 26+ hours for it to do any real damage to me at this age, I'm going to be all good and I'm in the clear until about 40, however If I'm lucky I'll walk away from this one now, and 20 years later unharmed.
This experience has taught me a few things.
1 - Never go into abandoned places without taking the chemicals into consideration again.
2 - Smoking has magnified the chances of this lung cancer, so I'm going to try and quit.
I'm relived, I hope my friends are able to walk away from this with better results than me though. QUICK_EDIT

I learnt before 10 years ago that asbestos has been used in many buildings as firewall layer, but unluckilly it's causing that lung cancer.
Those fibres get into air sacks and nothing can get them back,
later lung phlegm covers them so it's harder to breath. In the end there is big danger of lung cancer.
So stop smoking (you can try electronic cigarrete to get some nikotin or nikotin chewing gum),
don't eat much industry-made smoked meat (contains nitrites, eating such meat even few times per week is dangerous).
I also know one mater dangerous in the same way as asbestos: fulleren fibres (nanoscopic fibres of clean carbon), so I hope people will be more careful this time.
You should be too if you carry on exploring of abandoned buildings. _________________

I really support this decission mate Most of my friends who've been smoking have also quit or at least tried, and IMO, those nicotine lozenges should be of great help (never tried myself, since I never smoked, so I wouldn't know). At least my uncle, who's been smoking since who-knows-how-long, suddenly quit about a month ago and is now taking those tablets occasionally.
Although, it's also said that those quitting abruptly, just like that, would have the highest possibility of successful quitting. _________________

Dr. Thrax to the rescue!
Whatever, good luck, don't get 3 eyed grandchildren...From my experience, you're pretty safe, as most of the times you won't get any effects over such a long time. _________________ ☭☭☭☭☭☭☭☭☭☭

I wouldn't worry too much. I remember my dad telling me about his younger years before he was in the army, he worked in a factory that supplied asbestos to building companies. Anyway this was before they decided asbestos was hugely poisonous, so his job was to cut sheets of it with a ban saw, no mask and no ventilation. The result was him breathing in loads of asbestos dust, and to this day (despite being a heavy smoker) he has had no lung trouble what so ever. Not to say it won't happen, but its been well over 30 years since those days and nothing has come a cropper. QUICK_EDIT
