When I was using Vista if i would open the folder that had my terrain tiles I could see what tile was what without having to open the tile, but now on Windows 7 I open the folder I just see the name, no "preview". Is there a way to change this? _________________ I am authorized to send out the TMP Studio, PM ME IF YOU WANT IT And check this out, these were sent to me for help with terrain and zdata help along with TMP Studio/Builder

Well, I am modding RA2/Yuri so I figured this would be the best place to post up since this is the RA2 editing forum. I guess you could call them thumbnails, but the actual file shows the thumbnail without having to place the mouse over the file. _________________ I am authorized to send out the TMP Studio, PM ME IF YOU WANT IT And check this out, these were sent to me for help with terrain and zdata help along with TMP Studio/Builder

W 7
Its not bad, no complaints so far. When you have folders opened on the bottom and scroll the mouse over the folder it shows a min view of it when you scroll over the smaller view it expands a bit and you get a bigger view. I never had a problem with Vista, but so far I like W 7.
Ok, Dark Templar X.....how can I make it recognize it? If it matters I use firefox _________________ I am authorized to send out the TMP Studio, PM ME IF YOU WANT IT And check this out, these were sent to me for help with terrain and zdata help along with TMP Studio/Builder

Sounds like you had a shell extension to allow terrain tile previews that either isn't installed or doesn't work with windows 7.
As for windows 7, its pretty much a polished vista. There are still the annoying changes to the UI if you are used to the XP way and if a driver was never made for a device you own for vista, you won't be getting one for 7 either. It does perform better than vista on the same hardware as far as I can tell. The OS X style task bar is nice as well. My advice is as follows... if you have XP, don't waste money upgrading unless you have to use something that is only supported under vista/7. At which point get 7. If you have vista and can get 7 cheap (educational discounts or whatever) do it, its worth a small amount of money to upgrade and get a bit better performance. If you have to pay full price, its a rip off, stick with vista which is only really bad if you have old stuff that never got new drivers (or only got buggy beta drivers). If you are getting a new system, make sure you get it with 7 and not vista (or at least a free upgrade). QUICK_EDIT

Yeah, i have a few things I have to pull off my dead laptop's hard drive see if I can find out which 1 it is. It was nice to be able to see which piece was which without having to open it. _________________ I am authorized to send out the TMP Studio, PM ME IF YOU WANT IT And check this out, these were sent to me for help with terrain and zdata help along with TMP Studio/Builder
It's a terrain tile right? Get a terrain tile viewer install or something and go to Tools, Folder Options, File Types and make a new extension and change the Open with option to the viewer. Problems:
1. That's XP I'm talking about, don't know shit about Vista or 7...(too poor).
2. Is there even a terrain tile viewer? QUICK_EDIT

well, when i was running window ME and Windows Vista I was able to see the tile by just opening my terrain folder. Now with Windows 7 I am gonna have to pull every program off the laptop hard drive and see if I can find a match. I'll post up a pic when i have more to go on. thanks guys _________________ I am authorized to send out the TMP Studio, PM ME IF YOU WANT IT And check this out, these were sent to me for help with terrain and zdata help along with TMP Studio/Builder

ME/Vista
Well I never had a prob with either system. They worked for me, had a crash every now and then with ME, but they were few and far between. I had the explorer freeze up a few times, but I really can't complain about either.
Blade They were on 2 different computers, not the same one. Like I said never had any real problems. _________________ I am authorized to send out the TMP Studio, PM ME IF YOU WANT IT And check this out, these were sent to me for help with terrain and zdata help along with TMP Studio/Builder
There's absolutely nothing wrong with Vista. I'm tired of that stupid misconception. You people are dense.
Oh please, I was making a humorously sarcastic observation based on the popular perception of the two operating systems. There is nothing wrong with vista as such, the opinion arises because when it was release it was bundled on systems that were "vista ready" but in fact had hardly the system specs to run it well. Coupled with the fact most people were using XP on systems vastly more powerful that its basic requirements and you can understand why it got a rep for being a slow and bloated piece of crap. Then there was the fact that many old and even not so old peripherals didn't have drivers ready to run them at launch and so a lot of people ended up not being able to use the stuff that had served them for years. Many still don't and never will even though they are perfectly usable. And the final nail was that for most people it didn't actually improve their computing experience over XP. While there was nothing wrong with vista, there wasn't anything amazingly right with it either to make it a must have.
As for personal experience, I've had nothing but trouble making vista powered laptops stay connected to a corporate wireless system while the same laptops behaved fine with XP and this is over several models with varying wireless cards too. Quite a bizarre behaviour that I never did track down. QUICK_EDIT

vista
Well, when I first got Vista it was a nightmare. After a friend had my laptop for an hour he got it running smoothly. I never had problems with using any wireless connections. I was able to get on mine, my parents, 4 friends and the 2 local colleges, but then again they were simple lines and not corporate lines, hopefully 7 will have no problems. Everyone has a different story to tell, some love it, some hate it, some (like me) just were happy it worked _________________ I am authorized to send out the TMP Studio, PM ME IF YOU WANT IT And check this out, these were sent to me for help with terrain and zdata help along with TMP Studio/Builder
7 (which is actually windows 6.1 with vista being 6.0) will have mostly the same problems as vista if you already have problems with vista with the exception that it will perform somewhat faster on the same hardware. If you can't find drivers for vista you won't get them for 7 in all likelyhood, if software doesn't run on vista, it probably won't on 7 and so on. QUICK_EDIT
