download a straw texture

assign it to the material as diffuse map
assign it to the same material as bump map (change the color output to blue to get a better bump effect or use a bump map creating tool)
play with the settings

render and look if it's ok.

google for pictures of real straw roofs taken from a far distance to see how it should look like. compare your result and adjust the texture settings to come closer to the real picture.

Copy the cylinder.
delete one half of the one mesh and delete the other half on the other mesh (the copy).

Or select all polygons from one half and use the "detach" button in the polygon editing rollout sidemenu in 3dsmax.

In both cases you don't get the plane along the centre of the cylinder. For this select the border mode (somewhere next to the polygonediting mode and line editing mode)
Then select the border along the mesh (the lines around the border appear red)
The press the button "cap" to add a polygon over the border.
Then add some lines to give the top and bottom an edge along the diameter line.

Never mind I think I got it figured out. I think! Very Happy
right now it looks like a roof with a bad hairdoo, but with some modifications to the hair/fur settings should take care of it.

Thats better.
Still I recommend to use one texture for the whole building. It will look better as a shp.

Oh. #Tongue

Then good luck at getting better with 3dsmax so you can acomplish that!
Because something like that is your goal, right? Wink

Ok, the use of quote and saying this and respond and saying that or something to the effect is getting over played here. If you are not helping someone, dont post.....if you are not giving a comment on the person work, dont post
