I read an article today on this, seems to be a real serious problem!

Drug-resistant infections lurk in meat we eat
Animals routinely fed antibiotics harbor virulent germs that jump to people

Researchers say the overuse of antibiotics in animals has led to a plague of drug-resistant infections that killed more than 65,000 people in the U.S. last year — more than prostate and breast cancer combined. And in a nation that used about 35 million pounds of antibiotics last year, 70 percent of the drugs — 28 million pounds — went to pigs, chickens and cows. Worldwide, it's 50 percent.

"This is a living breathing problem, it's the big bad wolf and it's knocking at our door," said Dr. Vance Fowler, an infectious disease specialist at Duke University. "It's here. It's arrived."

No. The hype and panic surrounding it is bullshit. They'll make it out to be the terrible epidemic when that is not the case. More people still die from smoking, automotive accidents and cancer than this. This is still a fairly minor risk.

When the death toll starts hitting 250 thousand in one year, then you can start to bill this a really high level issue.

Now, that doesn't mean nothing should be done. Something should be, but spreading fear and panic is not one of them.

Well, you have to take in consideration the fast movement of the CDC and drug companies working together to make the vaccine avaiable as quick as they did. In all honesty, this could have been a real ugly mother other wise. The SwineFlu virus "or any flu virus for that matter"is a very smart virus, the damn thing already found away around the new vaccine already. Ahhh, you gotta love evolution Razz

That so called Swine Flu everyone got so worked up about in October made its way here. I think I had it.

Thing was, it was basically no worse than the traditional flu that goes around. I didn't need an ER visit. (Though due to health codes I had to miss work)

Pee is more or less sterile even from dogs. Bacterial contamination of that usually comes later. (Unless a urinary tract infection is involved in which case...)

Lies all lies.

There is no such thing as Swine flu. They just sometimes present simple flu as a Swine flu.

I've HAD swine flu. It was just "feeling sick for a week while taking fever suppressing pain killers". It didn't kill me.
