I have Red Alert 2 without YR and seem to have ran into a question. How do I create Weapons for the harrier to fire into other aircraft?

Without NPatch or RockPatch you'll get an attack cursor if you set AA=yes in the projectile, but actually the aircraft will keep circling and can't fire at all.

It is true! The only down fall to it is all the aircraft have to be low flying aircraft. I'm not not sure what the maximum FlightLevel= limit is to make it still work, but I had my air craft flying at an altitude of FlightLevel=40 and they engaged in Air to Air combat. Try for yourself, it works. Also I used a secondary weapon with AA=yes. As soon as I have a few extra minutes I'll throw together an ingame gif to show ya.

FlightLevel=200 is the maximum (known) height for being counted as a ground vehicle (and thus working as planned for air to air combat).

This could only possibly work with graphics so small in scale they would be eyestraining.

You could also make a plane that blows up in air and damages all air units around it... But it's not really an air battle, but more a complciated way to kami kaze other planes.

You would manually fly it towards the enemy aircrafts. Then target the ground, it blows up in mid air. And destroys all the flying units around it when it goes boom....

I don't recommend this method as it looks both silly and requires manually flying the planes...

I see, So in other words if FlightLevel= falls below 200 then the game reads it as a vehicle? Which I'm guessing is probably the case and seems logical enough. Well, this could still be a fun thing to mess around with, I just dont recommend flying around Tanks and such. Laughing

Exactly. It will fly over terrain according to the aircraft locomotor and the Fly MovementZone, but for purposes of targeting, it acts like a ground vehicle.

Perhaps make a voxel that has space below it, if at all possible and adjust the FLH up alot. Then you have the issue of landing.

Actually the FlightLevel=200 already gives it enough space under it. The planes do take off, engage in combat and land at airport for reloading. So in reality it is air to air combat just this way the planes can be shot down if close enough to a ground vehicle. This actually works pretty good, If the enemy sends planes to your base, and if you have GuardRange= and DefaultToGuardArea= set, these planes will automatically take off and try to shoot the enemy planes down. Razz

Since it is considered as vehicle due to the low flightlevel, doesn't normal units with AG weaponry can kill it this way too? Would look very odd if a tank fires its cannon on the aircraft.

For YR users/players this would be "Rubbish" I agree. But for those who still use, mod, and play normal RA2 "which has no patches at this time and probably never will" this is the only way possible to achive Air2Air combat.

it has nothing todo with weapons or hieghts... its simply anything under aircraft types has limitations. It just cant be fixed. The closest you will get is jumpjet units and that requires them to come out of factory.
