Believe it, or not! Community roundup for April 1st, 2010!
Subject description: We are not responsible for the veracity of any of these news.
Hey everyone! On friday, april 9th, I'll finally do the presentation of my computer science graduation final project and, once it is sucessful, I'll be able to get my diploma. Bout time, heh? I know today is a very suspicious day to announce such thing, but I'm not lying. It actually explains my lack of news post recently. I've finished the text, but I have to prepare this presentation.
Even with these obstacles, april 1st is a special day for any webmaster who loves to mocks the visitors of their websites and, yea, I'm one of these creatures. Maybe for some of you, it's already april 2nd, but this is internet guys! And an epic day like april 1st only ends when it's over in Hawaii or whatever timezone that comes after that.
So, here's the interesting news we could catch from our hosted mods and friendly C&C communites outside PPM. It's up to you to figure out which ones are real and which ones are not. I've researched all of them, so I know which ones are pranks:
PPM Hosted Mods:
-> Return of the Dawn: Reaperr has announced a big change log of the version 2.8. RotD is now standalone, the amount of internet players was increased to 8, there are inumerous bug fixes and improvements, it includes a separate game mode called Reaperr's rules and much more. Check the full list in this topic.
-> Reign of Steel will no longer be produced by Holy Master because he is lazy. You can re-motivate him, at this topic.
-> Tiberian Sun ReWire was abandoned by Gangster, but not due to lazyness. Apparently, he is motivated to make a Red Alert 2 looking mod instead:
-> XTX, the terrain and civilian expansion pack for Tiberian Sun will be released one days. Leave my words marked! It will! At least, that's what Team Black says. He wasn't specific if this day could be february 30th in the next years.
-> Star Strike's progress is slower because Eva251 is busy. Following the announcement, Eva also points one of the musics that will be featured in the mod. Open it as a new tab and leave it in the background. You'll enjoy it.
C&C Community Sites
-> At CNCNZ, Sonic has informed that recently released C&C4 is selling more copies than any other PC game in UK and Europe for the second consecutive week. Here's the ranking:
1. (1) Command And Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight (Electronic Arts)
2. (4) Football Manager 2010 (Sega)
3. (3) Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (Electronic Arts)
4. (8) The Sims 3 (Electronic Arts)
5. (6) Napoleon: Total War (Sega)
6. (-) The Settlers 7: Paths To A Kingdom (Blue Byte)
7. (-) Just Cause 2 (Eidos)
8. (2) Dragon Age: Origins - Awakenings (Electronic Arts)
9. (5) Warhammer 40,000: Dawn Of War II - Chaos (THQ)
10. (10) The Sims 3: World Adventures (Electronic Arts)
-> At CnC Guild, Nighthawk has found a press release of something EALA was being secretly cooking for a while, enjoying the sucess of C&C4 in Europe, which is C&C5: Kane's Crossing. So, yea, Kane is back and you can read the whole thing about it HERE. Time to farm for the brotherhood in a fast fluid and fun game with the uber Tractor for the win! :lol;. Nonetheless, this one was funny.
-> GRANS Productions will apparently close its doors if they don't get enough money keep their site alive. Read the official post here.
And surprisingly, a lot of other C&C sites did not post anything weird on april's fools day. There is one serious competition at CnC Source, organized by the Tiberian Dawn team and that's all.
I thought it was a french one that arised sometime in the distant past when they changed when the new year starts _________________ Please, read the signature rules of the forum. QUICK_EDIT

It's very traditional in Brazil as well and many other western countries. Anyway, this is internet, guys. This is a fan site, not a serious business. So, having fun with april fools joke is allowed here. QUICK_EDIT
@Aro: How is it bad for publicity? People have a laugh at the expense of their own project, everyone spams the topic, we all get back to work a few minutes later QUICK_EDIT
People have a laugh at the expense of their own project
You just answered your own question, as far as I'm concerned it's just a stupid thing to do, especially for something big or popular. If people get their hopes up when they read something false (obviously not knowing it's an April Fool's joke) then they'll be pretty pissed off; At least I would be. bah, a laugh at the expense of your own project is necessary, or you'll get all paranoid and crochety
Plus, you don't even have to talk about the risen Christ.
But I digress...
Did you all hear? BuildConst has finally been fixed! QUICK_EDIT
EDIT: OK, I was wrong. Aro seems capable of some kind of humour... even if he doesn't hold with the second most important day of the year, April First. QUICK_EDIT
I think this would be a good one for the Remember PPM Sayings forum.... _________________
