Hahaha I saw this happen to my grandad's comp, you'd think they'd actually test these updates before they release them.

What’s the problem.
McAfee found the biggest defective vires program out there and shut it down.

I used to use McAfee and if I remember correctly it was a pretty good program. I never had any problems with it. But then I havent used McAfee in a couple of years so I dont know how the new stuff operates, I Use Norton now.

But yeah you would think something that mesed up would have been caught prior to it's release. especially since people rely and depend on this type of software, for it to have such a destructive update it's going to hurt thier software sales dramatically.

McAfee wasn't the first to commit this kind of mistake (AVG did something like that recently) and probably, it won't be the last.

But hell, it's not that wrong afterall... windows is a hell of a trojan! Laughing #Tongue

Now in a serious note, I guess I'm one of the few people who actually uses no anti-virus whatsoever. If something is weird with my pc, I go with ctrl alt del, registry, netstat -nab and few other stuff. It usually tracks the source of the problem. Then google helps me to terminate it. I've wiped a bunch of virus in my sister's and dad's pc with these weapons.

I got McAfee for free from my university and I've never had a problem with it (and it has performed its job admirably for the most part), but its noteworthy this isn't the only false-positive they've given in the last few weeks.

A few weeks back, McAfee detected Spybot's SDShredder.exe as a trojan and wiped it off my PC.

I have to say I'm with Banshee using no anti-virus. It seems dumb at times but I don't go anywhere outside of the community as far as web pages go, and I'm quite sure that no one here is trying to take down their fanbase.

McAfee should just die. The provide barely any protection at all, when compared to free software. And that is not bad, not even horrible. It's pathetic. The only reason why they are still in buisness is due to all trial, bloatware version of their products on prebuilts from large manufacturers.

McAfee is very poorly rated. There's only one good AV platform worth paying for and that's Nod32.
