Is there a way to import Generals buildings using 3d max. I have seen posts for gmax and using the renx program but it does nothing for 3d max. i want to bring some into ra2/yuri's

GMax uses 3dMax scripts, just stick it in your script file and it should work for you. It dosent run by itself, so after you run script, you can find it in the drop down box where you run scripts.

ok, i opened 3d max, ran the script. I tried importing and kick back an error. tried to open it and once again it kicked back an error. am i suppose to use the renx program to because it failed to work for me. maybe once i had some sleep i can get it to work. im just going crazy trying to make new base buildings and finish up my terrain

First: what version of 3dsmax do you have?
Second: get the BFME Mod SDK, so you can export to W3D (the correct format)
Third: get the importer I've attached. This one works as I use it all the time

@Dutchy, I believe he's using 3dsMax2010 for which there are no plugins available for C&C W3D exporting. Only Max9 and below have them as of now. I think he just wants to import them for use in RA2/YR anyway.

This is the script I use for importing things from Renegade and generals. It's the only one I found that works with Max2010.

If that's so, I suggest you stick to GMax/RenX, as the plugin I gave you only works for 3dsMax 7(and 8/9 iirc, haven't tested). Same for the BFME Mod SDK.

Ok, it sort of worked. I am having an issue with RenX. I set it to where my 3d max is:

when I open RenX and try to access it I get an error. This is the properties listing. Where should the target be? The bold is where my 3d max is

C:\Autodesk\3dsmax.exe -a gamepacks\WestWood\RenX\splash.bmp -i gamepacks\WestWood\RenX\gmax.ini -p gamepacks\WestWood\RenX\plugin.ini



BTW: 3d max 2010

When I open 3Dmax I get a message saying bindpose.pose is missing.

That sucks.....OK.....Cranium, I got the script you sent. I ran it then went to open the files and nothing, tried to import it ( i pretty much knew this was a busted idea, but I tried it anyway) and nothing. Any clues? your up to a 12 pack now.

well so long as your doing things correctly it should work just fine, This script works in Max2010 no matter what anyone says. For example, I chose a random building, this being the Refinery. It imported just fine. There are no textures, but I think thats because I havent got them extracted or in the Art folder, one or the other, bottom line is it works. So dont go calling something Busted unless you know for sure.

Na, I think Art folder is one you have to create for putting exported models in for use in generals, all you have to do is use the Big editor and extract the W3DZH.big and the TexturesZH.big files. When using the Big editor choose extract all. It will ask you where you want to extract them too. Locate where your Generals file is and extract them there, but make a new folder. 1 for W3D and when you do textures, the same thing.

Ok, you used ZH big. I was doing that with reg Generals...anyway I extracted one piece from the file mentioned. I opened 3D, ran the script then clicked open. the folder was blank so I changed to all files. The file showed up then I clicked open and it said unable to open, then I did the same for import with same results

It dosent have to be ZH, I was just using it cause it was the file I came upon first. (I have both installed) But it's the same for Generals. Use Big editor to extract the files. So if you did it correctly like i said you should have a W3D folder and a Texture folder (pic 1) if you open the w3d folder, you should see all the w3d files (PIC 2), so once you've accomplished that, then open 3dsMax and run the script, select it from the drop down menu, and click on "Import w3d" go to where you put the w3d files and start opening them. Remember, not all these files are complete buildings, alot of them are only parts of buildings. you'll just have to figure out what is what. The full buildings and stuff are in there you just have to find them.
