Hey everyone! Earlier in this month, I've done the presentation of my graduation final project. It was quite successful. Then, I've spent the rest of my days solving bureaucratic issues that pops up here and there to deliver the damn dissertation corrected, to be finally able to get my computer science bachelor diploma. It's been so many years in this university that it's being hard to believe that I'm almost done with it. No more classes, tests, homework... just bureaucracy left... and articles. Yea, I'm gonna write some scientific articles based on my dissertation, which is mainly about VXLSE III's modelizer feature. To be honest, I don't know how to start it yet. It's easier for me to write a C&C new roundup instead... and solve more bureaucracy. Once I'm done with it, I'll spend my energies on getting a new job.

Anyway, it's harder to find news with the DENs out of the scene, but do not underestimate the power of our community. There are too many interesting things being developped in the most underground sectors and we'll probably rely on them. Here's what I could collect today:

Spotlight

-> Ares has reached beta stages!

Ares expands the moddability of the Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge, using Syrynge to inject code into the gamemd.exe, instead of modifying it. The testing stage started on march 30th, although the first beta could not save games or clone superweapons, although the SW problem has been attenuated recently. If you have some free time and you are able to be a dedicated tester, go ahead and apply here. It's never too late. The version 0.1 estimated release date is in may 1st. The features are listed HERE. The picture below shows a sample of what kind of warhead based superweapons you can generate with it.

Check Ares website for more information about it.

Community Site News:

-> CNCNZ.com's Roundtable Discussions are back, but they might not happen every month anymore. The 28th edition is mostly focused on C&C4. The following people were invited this time:

Sonic - CNCNZ.com Webmaster
Gben - CNCNZ.com Forums Moderator
Banshee - Project Perfect Mod
Chickendippers - CNC World
[NE]Fobby[GEN] - Renegade X
Cypher - Planet CNC
Zéphyr - CNC Saga
NODSOLDIERGIRL - CNC-247
Nathancnc - CNC Sector

And in the end of the roundtable, members could rate C&C4. Sonic has got the average score of the fans which you can see by reading this roundtable discussion. Surprisingly, it is not much different from most reviews from bigger gaming sites.

Also, the site received 2 C&C4 fan maps in the recent days. Check them out!

-> CnC World has a new mod and a new map. The mod is the RA2: Ubermod, by Petras_Kolnas, which is a ballance mod that tweaks the game and adds a couple of units to make each side more unique. The map is called Hammerfest, made by mirza044 for Kane's Wrath. It recreates the Tiberian Sun campaign map "Capture Hammerfest Base" for skirmish only purposes.

-> Official C&C site has what they could do from the final episode of Battle Cast Primetime, which was mainly the 10. It surprisingly features 5 Generals/Zero Hour matches and no C&C4 match. Unlikw some of you may think, the reason for the lack of C&C4 matches is that the episode was recorded before the game being launched.

-> CnC Guild has a new C&C4 Mapping forum, just like us.

Mod Releases:

-> Granatball Reploded has recently been announced with an early beta version being released to public. This RA3 mod works like the C&C3 Granatball: you basically control a grenadier and you have to blow up your enemies or capture the flag depending on the gamemode. The RA3 version is in very early stages with only Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch. So, grab the beta and post your feedback HERE. Have fun!

-> Tiberium Wars Advanced 1.6 has been released in german only. Wenn Sie wissen, wie man Deutsch sprechen*, I guess you'll have a lot of fun playing this new version. Otherwise, wait a couple of days (or weeks) for an english version. Anyway, for those who never heard of TWA, it's a ballance mod that enhances the existing Tiberium Wars factions with new units. Grab the german version ThunderMods.

-> RA2 Ubermod is a new ballance mod released by Petras Kolnas, which makes the RA2 factions more unique and the gameplay more fun. Find out more information at this topic and download it HERE.

Mod Updates:

-> Tiberian Sun Rising has recently presented two units: The Nod Artillery and the GDI Carryall. They'll all help this C&C3 mod to bring the Tiberian Sun universe to Tiberium Wars.

-> Middle East Crisis 2 is close to its release. This total conversion for C&C3 brings Israel, the Guardians of Islam and the United Nations forces to a battle in the Middle East. They've recently posted some of the best toys that UN players will be able to use, including the Brummbar, which is so big that it is classed as a structure. Click in the picture below for more information and other updates related to this promising mod:

-> C&C Reloaded has risen from the ashes once again, with Ares going public. FS-21 has announced the changelist from the upcoming version after 5 years of silence. So, I wouldn't be surprised if most people don't know C&C Reloaded. It's a very nice total conversion that brings Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 factions to Yuri's Revenge.

-> Huhnu Alert 3 is a new mod for Red Alert 3. It enhances the existing factions and adds ore fields to the game as shown in the (early alpha) picture below:

And that's all for now. I'll post more news related to what happened to PPM and its hosted projects. Things like Return of the Dawn 2.8 being released, CnC Relived interview with Gangster, the C&C4 map submitted here as well as new tutorials and more.

* According to the not so reliable Google Translator, it means 'If you know how to speak German'.

RE: Ares
No matter the intended meaning, "beta stages" is definitely incorrect. Features are constantly being added to Ares, and each individual feature is tested until mature and stable, while the project as a whole is tested for stability and regressions.

We are currently working hard on the first public preview release, but it has been delayed multiple times, because, while the feature set we aimed for had been implemented, the testers were very slow in actually testing them and confirming their stability, so that we could not in good conscious release Ares at the scheduled date - bugs found in the weeks after have confirmed that decision was the correct one.

We have recently purged half the tester team and brought in a few more people, which will hopefully speed up the process, but we do not have confirmation of all features' stability yet, and there are still a few alterations left to be made to fix bugs already found.

In other words: There are no "beta stages", and we do not have a public release just yet - but we're very close.

In closing, let me add the screenshot of the second SW D added while most testers were slacking off, the Unit Delivery super weapon:

Addendum: In addition, while the roadmap more or less accurately represents our working progress, it is by far not a good reflection of the features available in Ares.
I'll try to zip up a "press kit" of sorts with a current feature list and a few more screenshots for Banshee soon, for a better overview of the current state of Ares.
