Subject description: Question about extracting shp's

Me and a couple of mates are re-visiting ra2 Smile

We have done some modding for the game in the past but it was literally 5 years ago now so we're not too sure what we are doing but we're going to have a good go at it.

Just for some background we want to make a mod for YR that'll be kind of post apocalyptic. We should be fine on coding the units but we all suck at graphics. Because of the unit we have decided on for the most part I think we can get away with manipulating the shps and vxls in game. I have xcc mixer and can loacte the files but they are all the wrong colours and I'm not up for scrolling through all the palletes so was wondering if there is somewhere that will tell me the correct pallate for the shp or even a place where I can download the shps or other units which I am free to edit as I have found some but am slightly confused about the licensing on them

Most of the time you can just click on Autoselect for palette, but for most things "buildings,vehicles,infantry" use the Unit.pal, "unitsnow,unittem,uniturb" terrain and like stuff use the iso.pals.

Nice one, cheers. On standard "auto" everything is jsut black. "auto select" had things purple, which was odd. Do you know the difference between these two options

I'll keep a note of the two palettes you mentioned though Smile

if i understand correctly, your asking for the correct pallete so you can extract it. You dont need to have the proper pallete selected to extract it properly. The pallete selection is simply for preview purposes only. For editting shp's in shp editor, infantry should be fine right away since the defualt infantry pallete is already used.

If you convert from PCX to SHP tho you'll need to have the correct pal selected.

Few hints;
Pressing Ctrl+Q will make XCC Mixer try to automatically find the right pal for the shp currently selected, you might need to press it a few times BTW.

Pressing Ctrl+P brings up the pallet menu, from there you can quickly change between pals until you find the right one.

Thanks guys, you saved me from a lot of trial and error Smile

Also for vxls if you're going to make one from scratch what program do you use? os voxel section editor seems like just that to me, a section editor. I would have no idea where to start to build a voxel in this...
