Use this to open a map in text format
The program attached can be downloaded from adobe, but i posted it here for people. I have it on my other computer that does not have Photoshop CS3 and it runs fine. You can use this program to open maps in text format and it looks nice and neat. When you open this program and go to your RA2/Yuri folder you wont see any maps. Just go to the extension and open all file types. Then you will see all files in that folder. You can open a map in text format and edit it through there. It's nice and neat, when you are done you can save it and it should stay in same format as the original file. If not open map editor, where map name is type *.* and all files will show up and then you can open your map.
I use this when I have a map that I know works. I will save it then go back to editing. Then I save the edited map as a new name then I test the map. If there is a crash I load the error map, copy the items under structures, units, trees and open the that works. Then I paste them in the proper spots and save the map as a new name. It saves time and aggravation of placing those all over again if you added a lot. This only works if the map is the same and haven't made the map bigger or smaller

But you can use this and its neat looking. I just figured after having this for about 2 years I would share it. It might help a person starting out. I like using it makes things look better. _________________ I am authorized to send out the TMP Studio, PM ME IF YOU WANT IT And check this out, these were sent to me for help with terrain and zdata help along with TMP Studio/Builder
We have this neat thing that's built into Windows. It's called WordPad and it works fine. It even has the ability to search for certain strings of text, commonly called "Find!"
Seriously. This is useless. Use what Bolt said or download a man's text editor like Notepad++ or TextPad. _________________ Because Banshee saw fit to ban my other account for no reason, this is my new one. QUICK_EDIT
Huh? You can open maps fine with Wordpad, and with Notepad (although the formatting is screwed for the latter).
Thats why you open with wordpad, ctrl-a - ctrl-c, exit worpad. Open notepad, ctrl-a, ctrl-v save, continue to work with notepad. note this process must be repeated each time you save with fa2. "When editing a map, I can ussqaly do this in seconds it's so practiced for me, I ussually even add ctrl-f after I hit ctrl-v....
As for the text editor he's offering, I think if it helps him that's good, but for the majority, were fine with our standard notepad and wordpad and fa2.....
As for saving in the ra2 folder, I highly suggest you back-up your maps in a seperate location, and play test them between edits. "Reverting back is as simple as deleting the edited map and replacing it with the copy you ahd before you modified it." _________________ Grab my Map Logic Expansion Pack 5.2 here!

Well, you don't always have to come post on PPM about a tool that people have done without for years. Notepad++ is the only other editor I've ever seen a need for when it comes to simple INI editing, unless you're either content in Notepad/Wordpad or use TextPad. QUICK_EDIT
