Correct/best rendering settings for 3ds max 2010?
Subject description: For rendering trees for yuris revenge.
Good gosh Aro! Why you always have to drag me to situations like these!? J/K

Here's templates for TS and RA2 model rendering. When you want to render normal frames, hide the blue plane and make sure background AA is off. For shadow frames, assign that totally blue material for the object(s) and turn AA off. Use them wisely. Note: requires 3ds max 9 or newer. Smile
PS. One cell size (both TS or RA2) is 200x200 in their templates.
PPS. Use "Xref object..." to import your models to the template scene
I designed my system differently for Max 2010, In mine a Single cell for RA2/YR is 14x14, 1 cell high is 6.5, 2 cells high is 11, etc. I also find the best rendering results using the RA2 Script. But dont totally use it fully, I only open the script, place the camera, shadow light, and fill lights, Then I click the render button in the script dialog box with throws an error which after words I close the error and script. I do this cause it automatically makes the RA2 blue background for normal rendering, So then I open Render Settings, Choose CatmullRom then Render. Results in perfect renders for RA2/YR. For shadows I do pretty much same thing except I place a shadow plane under the object. _________________

Umm.. I appreciate all the help you guys have given but, I mean the best configuration settings for the renderer.
I render the model and save its isometric view as png then...
I use photoshop afterwards to fix some of the colours on the model and the background colour to blue ( ra2 transparency) and then I cut out the shaddow from my rendered image and colour that to the correct colour then save it as a seperate image.
After that I import both to shp editor and add some minor fixes by per pixel editing.
I'm looking to get something close to the quality of your palm tree Cranium. QUICK_EDIT
Next time I open up 3dsMax i'll let you know what settings I used for the trees, My job is kicking my butt, I get home so exhausted dont have the will to do much of anything lately. Went from 6 months of layoff to 10 hr days, body's just not used to it yet _________________

render
If you are asking what I think you are asking, then its a trial and error. When you render it make sure the view is not perspective but orthographic. You have to use the mouse wheel to zoom in or out, then render it then apply to shp image. If the image is too big, then zoom out to make it smaller and render it again. And the opposite if too small. LKO foundations are a help too, i use them in conjunction with flybs script and DonutArnold's templates. _________________ I am authorized to send out the TMP Studio, PM ME IF YOU WANT IT And check this out, these were sent to me for help with terrain and zdata help along with TMP Studio/Builder
I render a large image at high reso and edit in photoshop. Once it's ready for porting it gets resized in photoshop to preserve maximum detail and then we talk about shp editor.
I don't like trial and error methods. I like proven to work quality procedures!
So I can repeat the procedure step by step for each of the 60+ foliage models and expect same or similar results. QUICK_EDIT

trial & error
Well, didn't bother to check this post til now. Your cyber attitude sucks....some times trial & error is the best way for you to go. Maybe you can ask Cranium to post up some pics to explain his way to you. But, what works for him might not work for you. _________________ I am authorized to send out the TMP Studio, PM ME IF YOU WANT IT And check this out, these were sent to me for help with terrain and zdata help along with TMP Studio/Builder

I like the way his turned out, plus I can always photoshop it later for perfection.
I know which things need trial and error, but after doing trial and error you'll start getting it right with a few tries or less. Thats why I'm asking some one who knows more about these things. Plus rendering 60+ trees with trial and error is a pain in the ass. I'd prefer a more linear method. QUICK_EDIT
