Few modding questions
Sorry for the poor topic title, but I don't think each of these questions is worth a seperate topic so I'll just post them all here:
1. Are mods compatible between the original TS + FS and the First Decade version (which the freeware release is based on)? What are the differences between these 2 releases? Are all the INI files identical between them? What about game.exe and language.dll (my mod uses edited versions of these files)?
2. Can you put your mod's INI files in a MIX file, so they don't clutter the game folder? I've tried putting them in ecache02 and expand02 and neither worked, it seemed like the game simply didn't use them.
3. How can you change the title and loading screens from the original ones? I created a title screen for my mod, named it title.pcx and placed it in ecache02.mix. I run the game and it still has the original title screen.
4. Is it possible to remove the option to play the original tiberian sun from the menu screen when you launch the game? I mean the selection between tiberian sun and firestorm, I would like to make it possible to select firestorm only. I removed the button in language.dll (Dialog 3004) but it still shows up when I launch the game. QUICK_EDIT

1 Yes they are compatable, the only difference is TFD version doesnt require a CD and The Free version doesnt require a CD or Check for a serial code (there is a tool to fix custom exe which need a cd)
2 You should be able to
3 try editing the gmenu but i would wait for other better answer before you do that.
4 you could try editing newmenu.ini (inside gmenu.mix/ gamenu.mix inside expand01)
Removing the Tiberian sun menu item might work _________________ Creator of TS:BoB and some other things that might be good when finnished. QUICK_EDIT

I think they are. All the mods i made for TFD also worked with a "normal" TS installation. Note that the TFD version is already patched to 2.03.

Rules.ini, art.ini and ai.ini can be put into the aforementioned patch.mix to make it work. I'm not sure about the FS files, but it may work if you put them into expand02.mix. QUICK_EDIT
ok I was able to #3 and #4 by editing the original gmenu.mix found in the main folder of TS. Never really dared to edit the original MIX files but I guess there's no other way.
In what order does the game read patch.mix ini files? I mean rules.ini in the main folder of the game overwrites rules.ini found inside TIBSUN.mix, but does the rules.ini found in patch.mix overwrite the one found in the main folder? Or other way around? If you simply replaced the rules.ini found in patch.mix with your own, would you be negating all the changes westwood made with the patches?
And lastly, if the freeware release of TS is the least "restrictive", would it be fine if I simply included the EXE file from that into my mod? Would this EXE be usable no matter which version of the game you had, and it would remove the need for a CD as well? QUICK_EDIT
Not sure if it will remove the 'CD required thing', but any other things should be the same like at any other version (if the exe was not changed, ofc. I think they changed it when they patched it to 2.xx cause of the desyn errors ...)
And I think its following:
the patch rules overwrite the one in the tibsun mix and the one in the folder overwrites anything else. Happens with any other thing as well, btw (new Sounds, new Images, SHPs, Voxels, just anything^^)
and I doubt that you need to edit the original mixes. Not sure, though _________________
